I would want a non-xi sport package car. auto or manual.
comfort access is a no brainer. I'd probably try and not get idrive. because it's all dated at this point. my erfect e91 would be a 6 speed rwd sport package no idrive car. |

Well of course with N54! Just a bummer we are in the States and never had that option. Has anyone looked into the price of having one imported?

She's looking good, even in the IL winter climate.
I'm curious - what would you choose to replace your E91? There are so many choices and form factors today, but IMHO the E91 package is tough to beat and almost perfect (except for the limited North American power plant availability).

My replacement was an X5M. I should also mention that I have an e90 M3, so the obviously car to part with at this point is the e91.

I bought mine before we were a two-car household (downtown city living). Since then we added a Jeep Grand Cherokee for winter-season and mountain adventures. Had we started with the Jeep, I would probably have more of a toy for a second car, like your M3 or a Vette / Camaro / Porsche. As is, I still love the wagon and enjoy its utility value, dynamics and size. BTY, great screen name.

I sometimes regret not buying a e61.
but then I parallel park my e91 in a place that an e61 wouldn't fit in. it's a tossup. the 535 power and the ability to simply flash an additional 150 hp after you slap an intercooler and charge pipes on it is very intoxicating. I'd say that my N52 has been cheaper to run, but that's just a lie I tell myself, since there's a valve cover and intake manifold sitting here, I need to order an ESS, and I just got a waterpupm backup power error, so I guess I'm no longer invincible and at 138K miles I'm gonna do the pump and thermostat too. |

Finally picked up some new wheels. Pretty happy with how it's turned out. Need a couple minor things to flush out, and this stage of the project should be wrapping up.

As one would expect, the cars are similar (being wagons), but their personalities differ. I agree the 5-series long roof doesn't offer any more than a marginal increase in luggage volume. On the other hand, the character of the car is tilted more to luxury and less to sporty. The car feels heavier, more stable, and quieter, compared with the 3-er. Know thyself. I liked the idea of my wife in an E61. She doesn't share my enthusiast tendencies, so safety and comfort are good matches for her usage. For me? I prefer a nimble, lightweight and compact alternative, with a sporty personality beneath sleeper body work. As with many choices, this isn't one of better or worse, rather which vehicle is a better fit for one's circumstances.

if you got that 5 grand for me to find a decent 335 donor I'll get right on it.
this is a way to turn a 10K dollar e91 into a car that costs twice as much, and is still only worth 10 grand. Quote:
there's more room in the back of an e61 behind the seats, no doubt. and that air ride in the rear means you can put 500lbs worth of stuff in the back and it doesn't sag. Quote:
the back seat in a 3 series is cramped for an adult, the 5 series is much more pleasan to ride in the back of. also, if you want all the options, like segmented seat heaters and shit, they were standard on 5 series. My e91 is heavily optioned. like everything, ad I still don't have all the things that my brother's e60/61's have. I'd very much like the power tilt wheel. edit: I also don't think that the e61 is THAT much heavier than the e91. aluminum body bits made it to the 5'er first. maybe a 200lbs difference? it's not a lot when you consider that turbo power. |

Not saying it can't be done - it most certainly can. Just calibrate expectations, and double your patience allowance before beginning.
