I grabbed a 100mm f2.8L macro from the Canon refurb site while they were on sale this week. I can't tell it from new. This has to be the most dialed-in lens I've ever seen. This is a 100% crop from center and my focus point was the S in the word Ultrasonic on the lens cap. The plane of focus is almost microscopic and yet it runs right through the center of the S, even though the top and bottom of the S are OOF. We're talking micro-millimeter precision. Amazing.

Great piece of glass. There's nothing like a new lens to give a photographer a fresh view of the world! I look forward to seeing the new insights.

Nice shot, Ed. The old bridge isn't looking too safe at the end.

It wasn't very safe when it connected to the ground! But yeah, they tore that up the weekend they did the closure.

The Old Homestead (bordelo) in Cripple Creek, CO. Quite a museum and the tours are worth the few dollars charged. ;-) Interestingly, Cripple Creek claims that in the 1890s, due to the extreme mining wealth in the town, to of had electricity before New York City.

I went back to Hawk Hill in Marin County today after work. It was pretty quiet, but I managed to get one decent shot. I think this is a coopers hawk, but I could be wrong.

Mark,
That thin DOF is the bane of my macro existence, too close and details are OOF. The old Bay Bridge looks really old when seen from the new one. It didn't look that bad from the roadway when driving on it. Wifey was on it when the chunk dropped out of it in the earthquake. (a zillion years ago and a zillion dollars)

^^^^^I'm trying to decide if that bridge really is curved or if it's lens distortion. I'm leaning towards the curved bridge option. Cool pic in any case.
Looks like a bit of a hoof up from where you parked your bike. Although that could be due to the lens as well.

Surprisingly, the bridge is curved and not an artifact of the lens used. The two none-constant radius arches do present the optical illusion/distortion. When seen live it still causes one to scratch their head and feel like they're some carnival "fun house".
