^ Without the check engine light they wouldn't have replace your HPFP no matter what you told them or how good of a rapport you have with the dealer.

People have oversimplified the problem so much so that they actually believe that all they need is a hpfp. Again, I say, how come people have had 3 or 4 or more? It's obviously not enough to have a hpfp replaced. Anyhow, until I switched dealerships, I myself didn't realize that yes, there are dealerships who are better than others. My selling dealership finds customers to be an annoyance. You walk in at 7:10 am, they are all on facebook and it's like having a customer showup is a real nuisance. |

My 335i was in the shop with hard starting. They only did a software update for the whole car. Supposedly (according to the service advisor) the software modifies the sequence for starting.

I took my 335 in for a rough idle and long starts and was told by the dealer BMW will not replace the fuel pump unless it fails or throws a code.. When I called BMW usa they confirmed this.

That is also what I have been told. Nothing different than before, just calling it voluntary environmental recall to make it seem like something. ( How are the volunteers chosen?)

Sorry to jump in here, I recently became a 335i owner. After only a week of owning the 07 335i sedan it started the long cranking issue. I've been reading here about the voluntary recall and decided to just make an appointment with East Bay BMW. They were very easy to deal with. We already installed Dinan stage 2 software on the car and I was hoping it wouldn't be an issue. They went ahead and upgraded to the latest software per the recall. But according to my SA the issue remained. They also found that the HPFP was replaced in Sep 09 be the PO. After about two days of troubleshooting, they just replaced the HPFP and I picked up the car.
The long cranking issue has been resolved. But we reloaded the latest Dinan Stage 2 software along with another customer and it does seem a bit slower on both cars. FWIW - East Bay BMW was very easy to deal with and I didn't even have the letter. I just read this post and went in. Car starts and seems better, but I am not convinced it is completely resolved. Hope this information helps some of you. I was pleased with my dealer experience for this issue. |

I wonder if these devices that can clear codes can insert them as well.

Wow, this all looks so familiar.....Yep, been here done this 29.2.
Anyone remember that fiasco? The way this is being handled is very similar to how that was handled(or not handled). Makes you wonder if this isn't just a continuation or that was just the beginning of this.

A lot of people write they smell fuel for a day or so after replacement, but this seems odd. Please give any circumstances and info in a separate thread if he posts the video. Just interesting.........

I've had two previous fuel pump replacements. In the past had no problem getting a new fuel pump Recently Started getting again the usual signs of an imminent failure. Took it to the dealer three times. Each time got the run around - need software upgrade, replace vanos sensors etc. - but no fuel pump. Finally recall came out. I bitched mre than normal. Manager intervened and third new fuel pump was installed.
Be persistent. Talk to the service manager. Note: all recall installs are using a specific model fuel pump. Service manager indicated all n54 fuel pumps stink. They have isolated one that stinks less and are doing all recall installs with that pump. |

I was going to send you a pm but I guess you don't have a high enough post count yet? As soon as you can, send me a pm and I'll give you some info...

feeling hpfp paranoid
Dear friends, i drive a 2007 335 coupe 33k miles, and I have been reading about all the hpfp that are failing, and I want to know if I have the same problem, a few weeks ago I was driving fast and the power went away and I had the "service engine soon" light on and the 1/2 power light on as well, so I stopped I turn off the engine, and turn it on again and it was all fine, but every time I drive fast and push the engine hard I have 1/2 power light and "ses" light back on again. All I want to know is that if the hpfp is failing, could the car sometimes be running normal and from time to time be in limp mode when I push the engine?.
thanks very much. |

I admit I haven't read through the whole thread so apologies of this was answered...
For those of you who have gone in for the voluntary recall, how long did it take em to do the work? I want to get my car looked at before I deploy to Afghanistan for a year. |
