When you pull the fuse we're all talking about it makes the wipers come on for some reason, so you either drive around with wipers on or pull the wiper fuse too

I would also tend to think on 335's the rear end isn't probably designed to take that much power constantly. This was the case with 03-07 STi's people set those up red by pulling the from drive shafts and shortly after snapped there rear drive shafts due to them not being able to handle the hp and torque

Doubt it since 335s are RWD after a certain speed anyways.

The only thing i would say against this (if it even makes sense) is that, when it disengages itself at speed your aren't putting all the torque down to the tires, they are already moving. Whereas if you are about to lay strips you are going from a dead stop to throwing all the torque you have to the driveshaft and having to break the tires loose, which is adding more stress to the driveshaft

Exactly, XI's become rear wheel drive at 70 mph.

Except xis are exactly the same as the i's from the driveshaft back. Same diff, same axles, same subframe, same mounts/attachments.

Also, the TC opens 100% at 112mph, not 70.

i don't know about deactivating the all wheel drive system. It is faster than the sport 335i on 0 to 60 time. Plus it has lsd, also the rear wheels spin 1st before the fronts kick in.

It has nothing to do with the reason we originally bought a xdrive version. Like everyone, I like my xdrive for awesome acceleration in the snow, pretty much as if it was dry

Its all about having fun in summer time with the flip of a button (or simillar).

And just to clarify, no, the awd version doesnt have a LSD. It has a eLSD exactly like the rwd version (open differential). The car brakes the spinning wheel.

But yes the 60% rear bias is fun for drifting, at least in the snow in corners.

Is possible in the GT-R but not recommended since it eventually destroys many components. It's usually used for dynos or special events. My cobb did not have the option. I'd imagine the same with the 335xi's. If this is possible via JB, it would be GREAT.

Terry seems very willing to look into this for us. All we need is someone with an XI who is local / relatively close to him that wouldn't mind dropping the car off for a week or two.

Anyone?

tried pulling fuse 26 and 50 on 2008 bmw 335xi, and awd is disabled, this way the wipers won't come on, the only thing is christmas tree ligths up and turn signal is messed etc. i dont know if this does any harm to engine or electronics, just tried it out for 30 min, just put some nice stripes on the road.

This was already confirmed and has been done. I suppose the alternative is to put a switch in wired to both fuses. Flick it on and off. Wonder if there is a loss of power doing it this way as compared to a non xi.

man, i wish someone in california would do it. he just needs a 335xi to do it. Hmm... people need to start pulling their connections. I think it would be really cool to have on the map switch for jb4.. i doubt id even use it that much except for the hell of it.

Can this be confirmed? Because if this is so, I don't understand the value of being able to change it to RWD sooner- 70 is right at the beginning of 3rd gear when going WOT (as we all know) and that's really when we'd really benefit from this. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think the traction in 1st and 2nd with xi are to our benefit.

I've heard 70mph, I've heard 100mph...

I dug around a ton on this before, can't say that I ever found anything I would take as fact, but I've heard 70mph and up is RWD and 105mph and up is RWD. Based on my car, I'm inclined to believe it's 105mph and up.

I wonder what would happen (other than DSC being weird) if the JB4 reported a higher than normal speed to the DME? Be interesting to have it read 105mph when you were only going 50-60mph, and have the car be RWD from that speed going forward.
