DIY to come once I get it all written up.
I have this Christmas tree except I also have 4x4.. Frustrating.. Some days it comes on immediately.. Other days I'll go my whole commute without an issue..

Edit.. Just realized this post was on page 1 as well haha

I got her the Motive black label bleeder thingy, and also got her a set of wheel chocks at amazon. $2.88 each, or $11.89 for a two-pack. Hmmm...the obvious choice was $11.89 for the two-pack, my 335i deserves it! (NOT! 2x2.88)

It was wishful thinking that it would be a fluke. Mine has come and gone like 12X now, and it still will correct, and come back.

Not to worry, it can be repaired for $250--I am building up all the stuff needed for the DIY. I think all that is left is the brake fluid, and I want to get two motive bottles, and I'm ready to roll. Rheingold to activate the ABS pump when it comes back...

edit: no worries, it's still going on, only the dealer price has doubled, they want like $3,400 now for the job...

So is it most likely this in all cases? Because I have something that sounds like a wheel bearing going bad.. Weather has been a real pita here in Ohio despite being well into "spring," and so I haven't got to do much digging into it; but I've heard bearings can set off abs. I was also suspecting the brakes because as I worked my way into one of the bearings, everything spun fine and quiet once the caliper and rotor was off.. I suspect that I purchased the car with its original rotors despite 100k on the clock.. There's a lip on the edge of the rotor.. Pretty sad really

I believe it boils down to the codes, I have 5DF0 and 5DF1, which point at the DSC Hydro. For some reason, that part has doubled in price since 2012....it's now like $2700....people used to buy them new for like $900 and throw away the module part since it requires coding....used their current one....wait a sec, $900 to $2700 is triple!

Ouch, I had something about longitudinal acceleration sensor last time I checked, but I'll check again later.

Just ordered the DOT 4 fluid and the two catch bottles, even talked to the repair place. I guess it's showtime! Been dealing with this since Jan I think. I actually wanted to have brand new brakes on all 4 corners before pulling the DSC hydro out (no reason I guess just wanted to)--now everything has been done and we're ready to yank it out and ship it. checking eBay, seriously, there are a lot of used parts out there, mostly for AWD, and costing $200 and up. Why not just repair with a 5 yr. warranty for $250, and it came out of your car....you know its condition. Plus, mileage doesn't really say much, mine failed at 49k....

Installed VRSF CP and HKS BOV.. All went without a hitch

PS - the tab on the cowl that holds the electrical cables was broken thanks for BMW of Fort Myers, another item of mine they refused to take responsibility for breaking, yet they are the only ones who ever touched my car aside from myself..

Believe that's known as the wiring loom. It often gets broken for the first time, when the HPFP recall is performed...

Yeah well, BMW of Fort Myers sucks at handling wiring looms and you would think that the dealership who sells these cars would be competent enough with handling them and knowing the weak points..

Well let me know man, I'm going to do my brakes first and make sure the slider pins are all free as well.

There's tons of weak points, I broke one of the plastic tabs that holds the headlight cover... Really sucks and I lost the piece so I can't jb weld it back on, I suppose eventually I could rig up something. It sucks not being familiar with something and breaking it to learn your lesson because you know that you'll probably never need to do it again. At least if you do I suppose you can do it right THAT time.

Real nut shot in your situation is that they won't fix it.

I'm still on the DSC hydro thing--spent 1 hour in the garage figuring out Rheingold. imho it is not user friendly, yet people say it's way better than DIS or INPA. In reality, it's just fine, but you have to know the exact steps to take, it's very difficult to figure out just by clicking around. And the way the verbiage is, you can tell it's like DIS--tells you to press the right arrow. No you don't, you move your mouse over NEXT, and click it! But one of the old posts gave me a hint where I was gonna find the "power bleed" function....I can't do it because my ABS is not functioning. The good news is when I clicked next, the dash chimed and the ABS lamp came up in the center part of the dash, i.e. Rheingold was communicating with the car.....now I just need a weekend to do this....

p.s. if that Schwaben tool does all of the above, it's way more expensive than Rheingold, but maybe it's easier for many people to use....dunno

Some progress beats no progress, just work with a clear head. Now if only I could take my own advice. I can see why some folk prefer cars with less technology but in the end the fruits of your labor can be so so nice.

Yeah I think, wouldn't it be nice to just drive into the dealership, pay $3,400 on your Visa, and drive home that evening, and be done? Instead, this is a 4 mo. ordeal for me! lol

But in the end, it would have been $250, plus some misc. tools, fluid, etc., the software, no more than $500. Just to save $2,900. Some don't need to save that money. Or, if it coulda failed under extended warranty.

So my thing is if somebody else has this issue, like my wife's cousin's husband who has an '08, now I can take all my pain and learning, and pay it forward!

I agree with every bit of your post. It's a shame that an almost perfect functioning car worth no more than 14k (in my case) could run 3k on almost any repair that's not maintenance related. That's just not something most of us can budget easily. My advisor at work said just tonight that the exact same thing stopped him from getting a bmw actually.

Failing under warranty would be too easy lol.

Agree totally with the pay it forward. I'm down to share all of my experiences and 2 cents where it is welcome to help someone's experience be that much easier.
