Ultimate Bimmer Service does walnut blasting. It'll cost a bit more than having Sammy do it.

Check with Eurauto Shop in Plano. For a 335i, I think it's around ~$300. Maybe $250... They did one of my 335ds (which is a completely different deal, despite the similarity in the engines). She runs a lot better now.

Sammy is always busy. I've had a tough time getting ahold of him lately. The dude always has like 6-7 335i at the shop.

Anyone try Bimmer Motor Werks? I called the guy recently. He used to be a tech at BMW Dallas. Gave me some low prices for work.

I was actually able to get ahold of Sammy yesterday and was planning on scheduling my walnut blast for later next week. I ended up changing out my plugs yesterday and haven't gotten any misfires (reason for contacting him) so I'm going to hold off for now. Try contacting him again I think he may be available

Anyone here in the DFW successfully flashed an 07 car with MHD? I keep getting errors, and wanted to see if my cable was possibly bad.

Got it sorted, it was battery charger issue. This thing flies like a raped ape on the freeway.

INTRODUCTION (and questions)

Howdy NTX, Hoopy here from East Dallas. I've never been much of a "car guy," but I've been a bimmer fan for about twenty-five years, and I've had two different 3-series during that time. While the bigger models have not been in my budget up until now, the 3 (and the 2002) have always been my favorites anyway.

I've been following e90post for a couple of years, but my inexperience under the hood, busy travel schedule, and becoming a first-time parent to twin boys have severely restricted my ability to dig deep enough to follow most of the discussion threads!

Well, over the summer, I finally gave up on the travel job that was trying to kill me, and since then I've been lurking a bit more and more, trying to get a grip on some of the basic concepts of what keeps these machines going. Giving full financial freedom to my local service center is not an option!

I have an unmodified 2006 330xi, and I would like to keep it running and clean for at least another ten years, if not longer. (My boys, Elvis and Danger, will be eligible for driving licenses in thirteen years). I imagine that over time certain things like iDrive and navigation may become unrealistic to maintain, but those are kind of a nuisance already!

This winter I got my nails greasy and my knuckles bloody for the first time under the hood, when I started getting misfires and learned about things like coil packs and spark plugs. I'm only scratching the surface, but it sure feels satisfying to stare the dragon down the throat and charge ahead, armed with a shiny steel ratchet set.

I am really interested in getting more hands on experience with both my own car and other BMWs, so that I can take better care, and spend less money, on the car I love.

So I ask of you, the community, who wants to help me help them help me? Anybody on my side of the metroplex that will let me pass them a wrench and a beer while doing maintenance?

Anyone with the tools and the understanding who can help me with some basic recoding?

When I get stuck and need to escalate to an experienced professional, is there someone/some place that would be understanding of my needs and desire to limit expenses and talk me through needed service rather than just run up my credit card?

Also, I'm building up an impressive collection of archeological samples in the form of 10-year old broken plastic tabs from interior trim pieces and elsewhere. The cover for the OBD2 port doesn't want to stay on, the plastic trim around the sun visor vanity mirror is rattling like a sumbitch, and while I managed to successfully disassemble everything twice, I broke the tabs off the cabin-filter cover when I was cleaning it! Is there a good local junkyard-type resource where I can hunt for replacement parts instead of paying full boat for new replacements from Bavaria?

Anyway, thanks again for all those who contribute to this group, and I really hope to meet up with some of you soon in person.

Where did you guys have your FMIC and DP's installed in DFW? (If you guys DIY'ed lemme know too).
Hopefully looking to get this done in the next few weeks. Since we get a new post here about twice a month hopefully I'll get a response by then.

If anyone happens to be in Oklahoma looking for a walnut blast I know a guy in the Edmond area. He did mine for $300 and had me in a week after I called him. He also provided the replacement gaskets. You can PM me for his information! Bye!

Yeah, that was wrong. Notoriously Tantalizing Butt Crack. I don't know if it's a crew, that's just what the acronym stands for
