Thanks for the props man! Inlets are a PIA to install. First time I hated it. I have done a few now so I breeze through the install. Unfortunately all Inlet kits are a PIA to install. That is the main reason these took 9 years to come out in the N54 world.

What chargepipes are you guys running with inlets?

I installed my MMP inlets this weekend and the coolant reservoir is up against my chargepipe. I also had to route the coolant hoses from the additional radiator on top of my charge pipe. My car is a 335is hence the additional coolant hoses for the radiator in front of the driver side front wheel.

I would like to add the 335D coolant tank and hose for a more stock look. But worried about fitment.

AK.,

We have a well respected shop who has indicated the following when queried on the inlets on the market today:

1) "Both Passenger side offerings (aluminum style brands edited) currently are very poor in our opinion execution wise."
2) "We would charge the same for (alternate silicone brand edited) as RB's for the most part. Maybe more for the (alternate silicone brand edited) to keep them off the belt drive."
3) "If someone came in and just wanted the inlets installed, and nothing else, we would bill 7hrs for the job."
4) "We do not care for the other passenger brands, but they would be at least an hour or two more of labor for those. Again, we would do everything we could to steer people away from those."
5) "In fact, an RB turbo customer of ours brought us some Passenger side inlets (brand edited) and we installed the RB ones instead."
6) "We charge $95/hr".

EDIT:
7) When I questioned about the only 1-2 hours additional for the passenger inlets (which requires coolant reservoir relocation, etc); this was the response:
"I could have misquoted the (aluminum style brands edited) ones. It is probably a 10hr job. We basically price it so we don’t win the job."

In short inlets are not all created equal. You are going to pay extra costs pending on what style you choose to purchase. Mostly the costs end up being far cheapest for the OEM style driver side inlets, so the purchase cost is only part of the function (ie. you either pay it on the front end or the backend). Based on this feedback it is clearly obvious that the RB N54 High Flow Inlets install the easiest out of the bunch, and an extremely close 2nd with the alternate silicone brand.

Thanks,
Rob

Passenger side offers higher flow numbers but will take a couple more hours to install. It's up to you. I went passenger side style because me car had everything out, trans, subfranes, etc and my build can use the extra flow. If you're using one turbos the drivers side setup is probably enough.

I had a shop install my RB inlets. They charged me a flat rate $400. I really like the way the RB inlets route around the belt area, no chance of rubbing.

This has been consistent with the feedback we've received from many DIY'ers and shops, more and more are moving towards the RB inlets because of fitment and relative ease of install.

I'm using an ER charge pipe with tial to go with my mmp inlets. I picked mmp because they were the hot side passenger side style so better flowing, and because they offered the best flow for the price.

I'm running the Precision Raceworks. Had a local mechanic, Sean Osbourne (out of Houston) install them. Did a killer job. Charged me $400.

EDIT: VRSF chargepipe with Tial BOV. I've considered changing, but I've had no real reason to as of yet.

I don't have a decent pic, but here's a really crappy one.
