I picked up a pre-owned 2012 E93 a few weeks ago. It had been sitting around for 5 months and had its original battery - was throwing a bunch of codes, all related to a low battery. Installed a brand new battery, cleared the codes and most everything is working fine.. but every couple of days I have issues with the windows not rolling up all the way (they act like they hit an obstacle and roll back down) and the car reported a brake light was out when it was fine. I also used Winkfp with daten v63 to update all modules (except for modules on the MOST bus) using a Bimmergeeks Pro cable, and every single module flashed successfully, with the exception of the FRM - when trying to flash ZB 9390487 (this is what's auto-suggested by Winkfp for the FRMR3), I get "IFH-0009 - No response from control unit". I can, however, bring up the FRM in INPA and it responds to the mirror control/window tests, etc.. for some reason Winkfp just can't flash it.

Is this a symptom of a bad FRM which could be fixed via an XPROG as discussed in this thread? I'm fairly technical so I'm not worried about the procedure, just don't want to waste my time if my issues is elsewhere. Thanks in advance!
Are there any FRM fault codes being thrown?

Well this morning I tried it again, this time via Expert Mode in Winkfp (selected the same files that Comfort Mode said it was going to use) and the flash for the FRM worked and is now on ZB 9390487 (was previously ZB 9263799). I did get a "Lighting Malfunction" on the dash when it was finished but I cleared errors via INPA, took it for a 20 minute drive, cycled the car on/off a few times, and so far its been fine. It seems like my FRM was previously just acting up but wasn't yet dead. ISTA/P does tell me that both the CAS and FRM need to be VO coded, I guess that's a separate issue so I'll have to research that.

Now that the FRM is up to date on a current version, is there still a risk of it being corrupted as discussed in this thread, or was this issue resolved with the latest flash?

Also, in the event that I brick the FRM again while playing around with Pulse Width Modulation or other settings I decided to add a D-Sub connector to make the unit easier to reflash. Easy-Flash FRM if you will, No need to even remove it from the car anymore....

Hi,
I had my FRM3 dead and sent it to a guy to flash it and it put the wrong version on it.
Now fog lights does not work and also inside light is flashing and i have a error that dimmer is faulty.
This is my module:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/Vc1HueJUbXtUMyM5A
E89 E9x LED XE - FRM3R PL2 6135-9240531, HW Number: 9206245
When i look with INPA, it has no hardware number and Part-No is listed as 9242524
From Google it seems that it is for X cars, not mine.
How i can fix it? I can fix it in WINKFP using advance mode? What files should i flash?
Or i can use NFS emergency flash to flash the right files?

I tried to flash with NFS version 9240542, but i get this error:
0x72 9240542
Programming not ok. Fatal Error
Error: Error 201: Check hardware number Wrong ECU hardware number: 9242524 (BSU not possible)

That looks like a valid error, as that hardware no is for X1..X5 cars, not e90.

How i can fix it?

Thanks,
Emi.

New Mask?

I recently tried repairing an X5 FRM3R VDM that has HW:14 SW:17.10.00. I deleted program flash and flashed "61359287252 new" from the google drive with my Xprog v5.51. Now it tells me the chip is secured and I can only erase. When I try to do that it comes up the message "Unknown Device ID: 0xC483".
Looking in the data sheet there seems to be a new mask for the MC9S12XEQ384: 1M12S which has the Part ID 0xC483. Unfortunately, Xprog doesn't support it.
Strange though why it let me flash it once.
Any ideas/advice?

that approach (to write flash from archive) is pretty obsolete now,
you can use Toms converter to generate eee from dflash.

xprog supports secured version of XEQ384, u will need to find pins. there are two additional ones, hint - on the other side of the board.

dont forget power supply on xprog or it will not work.

Thanks levanime, the issue I have with the converter is that I can't get a good read of the D-Flash section with my xprog. It will always throw a verify error so I don't know when I get a good read. No two files that I read match. Writes are slower and seem to work though. Anyway, I got it working by updating my xprog to 5.55 which supports the 1M12S mask.

does this also reset short circuit counter-read through the posts couldnt find answer

when doing this repair does this also reset the short circuit counters? I read through the posts and didn't come across this answer. I'm contemplating sending in my frm for repair since I dont have an xprog and dont feel confident in my skills and want to know if this is done do I still need to mess with the short circuit counter. I just got this car second hand I noticed there are led reverse lights in the car not sure what else is in the angel eyes etc...car currently has a replacement frm not from the same family basis model e82 but mine is e82 with ahl for reference. answer to this question and any and all input is greatly appreciated.

It kind of depends on the repair you get. If someone just repairs the EEprom, you most likely will have the same faults set as before. If you flash the dump from someone else, you get whatever faults the donor FRM had. However, when I repair FRMs I usually plug them into my car, flash them with WinKFP to the newest level and clear all faults. It still needs to be coded to your car when you plug it in though as it will get the options from the donor vehicle. Also, if you get a donor EEprom content, most likely you'll have to perform the window lifter normalization once it gets into your car. PM me if you'd like help with your FRM.

Thanks so much for the response I'm just getting started and so much to learn... This repair doesn't work for frm2 does it? It seems it's only for frm 3 so do I only have 1option of locating a used frm 2 with ahl for e82 or can I also get a frm 3 for e82 with ahl?

Even if it comes with short circuits already in the FRM, they can be easily reset using Tool32 once you get the FRM installed in your car.

Are those LEDs as well? You could code out the bulb checks, and that should take care of the error.

Haven't paid any attention to this thread for sometime.

Post 1 updated:

***LONG OVER DUE UPDATE***

It's now widely accepted the correct way to repair the FRM3 is by reading dflash.

Once you have a good dump you can extract the good eeprom dump by using this tool:

Why do you need it? Just read the dflash and use the converter above...
