Great thread!
In high school I test drove an E12 that was real ratty, but man I wanted that beater. A friend in high school had a red E30 manual convertible that we enjoyed loading up with girlfriends and bombing around in when his parents would let him. Next up was a ride in the back of one of these… Then I drove this manual 316i when I was in Germany after college. I loved the blue color, but this thing was a nightmare on the autobahn. I’d have that thing floored and it would take 10 minutes to get up to about 115 mph. Passing was an adventure in hopes I wouldn’t get someone coming up on me before I could complete the pass. Worst part was my manager had a 540i and that thing was a rocket so getting into this 316 was a brutal motivator to work harder! Last edited by IcewaterPete; 01-11-2023 at 10:22 PM.. |

E92 M3 DCT. Had to be almost 10 years ago. My buddy bought it off the showroom floor. Sounded so good. The shifts were so fast and snappy. That car was amazing back then. Looking at them now they look so dated and would feel slow but ya was a fond memory

It’s interesting, because I do agree the E92 M3 looks dated with its hips and bumps, but I actually think a very clean series E92 still looks relatively current. The series cars were stunners (only the coupes) and had great lines, way ahead of their time.

The problem with the M variant for the e92 was that the series car had such clean, sleek lines that all the vents, and bumps and sculpts made the M car look a bit odd. That said, if we're being honest, the M3 (M4 being lumped in here) sedan variant has been more attractive than the coupe since the e46 (for which there was no sedan, but even if there were I doubt it would have beaten that coupe).

2020 Z4 M40i was my first BMW. And I should still have it, but that's another story of stupidity on my part.

2011 335D my buddy owns. Has some work done to it and its wicked fast so he let me drive it once. It was a pleasant surprise how the power delivered and how smooth the ride was. He got me hooked on wanting a BMW as my next (current) car.

True. He's been talking about buying a E91 and transplanting a N57 platform into it cause we did get them here in the states. If I could find a 335D with low miles and they didn't want new car prices for it, I'd buy one in a heart beat.

1994 E36 325i Sedan 5-sp manual -- test drive the day I ordered my '94 325is Coupe. The BMW salesman could not drive a stick (!) and asked me to pull it out for my test drive.

While in grad school I test drove and then bought a new 1971 2002. Had that car for almost 10 years.
