Just got off the phone with BMW NA's reimbursement line at 844-857-0341.

As expected, folks like me who did their own repairs will not receive any costs reimbursement from the faulty Vanos bolts repairs because they will only provide reimbursement if you went to a repair facility.

I basically got the "go suck an egg" line even though eggs are really expensive currently!

And it looks like no way to clear the recall without the dealer minions tearing into my engine. That's not gonna happen!

Just an update on my car. I bought the Elring VC from Rock Auto, $172 with tax and shipping. First time doing this job. Took me 2.5 hours with really taking my time and cleaning up. I found that they didn't clean the channel in the old VC before installing the new gasket (or they didn't replace it) gasket was disgusting. I could not visually see a crack or a brand on the VC, but date code was 2022. I'm going to assume it was a junk Amazon part.
The Elring fit perfectly and install was simple.
I guess I am glad this all occurred because I'm pretty sure the internal pcv system had failed. I had a lot of oil inside it and in the pcv diaphragm. Car runs smoother now and there is no light odor of oil burning after turning engine off. I'll check my catch can in a few weeks to see if it's got oil in it. 156k on the motor.

Good to read another positive vote for Elring... that's what I used on our F10 and a year in, it's been great so far!
