Somewhat by design (keeping a competitive driver out of the second seat). Swap Perez with any other driver in the top 6 constructors and rb finishes first in the wcc. After last year, any driver would've wanted to get that seat if rb weren't concerned about competitive dynamic within the team. It was a good drive that race, but to claim no one else could do something similar with a red flag and those conditions is a reach. |

Max lead at the end on those who did make an extra pitstop not under red flag was also easily enough to make an extra pit stop.
So on pure pace he would've won anyway, red flags or not. So Max and RB beat the competition both on pure pace and on strategy in Sao Paulo. And that red flag argument can just as well be used on qualifying. Max would've gotten pole (so 5th with gridpenalty) if his qualifying wasn't messed up there by the red flag. So there's no logical scenario thinkeable that Max wouldn't have dominated the Sao Paulo GP.

Certainly qualified out of position. Nonetheless, the impact of the red flag is just as easily seen given that both alpines were on the podium lol. Being able to pass a bunch of back markers on track and then leap frogging his main competition with a red flag isn't a master class of driving when you get a bunch of clean air thereafter. . Cars more similar in pace were impacted by difficulty passing where only one line has grip for braking /traction zones. The strategy here is what enabled the end result.

Max passed Piastri in arguably the fastest car on the grid like nothing happened.
He just flew by choosing a different racing line. Like explained in that video. That makes Max currently by far the best driver in the rain. He's in another league. And even the most biased british reporters now seem to get that. He showed as early as in 2016 what he could do in the rain, and he showed it now that he's even better at it, even with the pressure of the WDC hanging in the balance. The difference between the alpines and Max is that once he passed OCO, he drove away from him and the rest of the field steadily at around 1s per lap every lap. No other driver on the grid came even close to his pace. The telemetry stands for itself. Just look at that if you don't believe me. It is thàt simple.... Max had easliy enough pace to get a free pitstop compared to those who made a pitstop outside of the red flag. The telemetry doesn't lie.

I guess gasly is just as masterful then, given where he started on the grid to get his podium in an alpine lol. All driver skill, and he'd have done it on the track without the red flag.
I think the British media trying to cover for how inept Norris is/was, given he doesn't take advantage of opportunities (look at Russia 21) |

Gasly started 4 places in front of Max, and he finished 22,5sec behind Max.
That is indeed pretty much how I rate Gasly.

You rate gasly being able to take an alpine to a podium on merit and without a red flag or wet conditions? Mystery why he's even in an alpine to begin with then. Small wonder those kind of drives weren't seen from the alpines in previous wet races. But yes, the red flag and conditions were entirely irrelevant to the end result.

So no matter what, Max would've beaten NOR and RUS with ease in that race if there was no red flag. Sure, if there hadn't been a red flag his gap at the end would've been less, but he would've still won. And if not for the red flag during qualifying, he would've gotten pole too (before grid penalty of course) There's a reason why every reporter, even british ones, called that race a Max Masterclass.... Too bad you can't see it. Or don't want to. Haters gonna hate.... The biggest mistake both NOR and RUS made, is that they were racing eachother. That's why they both came in at the same time during that VSC. They should've been racing Max....Not that that would've mattered though
