This may have been asked before -- does 'USDM' cover Canadian models, or are our cars totally different up here?

does this tune have any automatic compensation procede-style regarding bad gas, elevation / other variables or even additional mods like downpipes or intercoolers or does that have to be written in with a stage 1.5 / stage 2 kind of thing?
does it require an external power source while flashing? i have friends in the Z car / subie communities running cobb and i like the product; might even win me over soon but i'm very curious |

I have a question!
1. Is this flash detectable by the dealers when you take it in for service?!?! 2. What happens if you have the Cobb flash installed, then when you're driving your HPFP fails or your injectors fail, you get a check engine light or HALF-ENGINE light... When the dealers scan your car for codes, will they see that someone tampered with the DME ?? If so, can we un-flash the car while we are waiting for the tow truck? Will the DME allow an un-flash with a check-engine light? |

The coverage of Professional BMW AccessTUNERs is going to depend on what facilities are interested in generating customer calibrations for these vehicles on their chassis dynos. We will update the dealer section of our forums as new BMW Professional Tuning Facilities are added. This will take time, so please do not expect any immediate updates until more external vendors use and prove this technology. The AccessPORT is capable of checking and clearing stock drivetrain DTCs. Whether you want to uninstall the device before going to the dealership or not is entirely up to you. Christian. |

2. The AP will definitely uninstall when there are check engine lights and most certainly can be uninstalled while waiting for a tow truck. Quote:
We recommend a battery charger to cover the worse case scenario such as a car that has been left out in the cold without being driven for two weeks or car with a super week battery. A car driven daily with a healthy battery will not require a charger to install or uninstall. Changing maps are so quick, there is no need for a charger to be attached. The question is how come JB4 and procedeV5 support both EUR and US 335 while AP can't ? I know a flash is difference from PNP but is that also affect? Can we just the current AP on EUR spec and wait for a EUR map later? |

Piggy back systems intercept and produce signals and code that modifies what the ECU see's, therefore piggies can be used on a wide variety of cars. A flash is a complete re-write of the ECU's coding. COBB has only US cars to work with, they don't know if the coding between an EU car and a US car is the same. Just think of what could happen if you loaded the firmware and it crashed your cars ECU... OF course I could be off the wall like I said, so maybe an expert could chime in if I'm right or wrong..

As a Dinan flash adopter, I am attracted to this tune because of the ability to reflash at home without having to drive 350 +miles to the nearest Dinan dealer. I am also interested in the potential pop in power vs. Dinan S3. With my car coming off warranty this year, that isn't a concern. So a couple of questions:
1. Will it safely overwite the Dinan tune, or will you have to get it flashed back to stock first? and 2. If it can flash over the Dinan tune, when you flash back to stock, will it restore the Dinan tune or to stock? Thanks in advance. It looks like an exciting product.

Anyway GIAC seems to be able to flash both US and EUR spec cars, so I'm sure Cobb will get to it sooner or later. IMO they are probably just waiting for the right business partner in EUR. |

A piggyback just modifys signals sent and received by the ECU. So it can be used by a USDM ECU or EDM ECU. When dealing with flashing, like Army said, your completely rewriting the code (aka ROM or IMAGE) on that ECU. Now, when flashing you need to know the type of ECU and the exact coding of the ROM or IMAGE on it. Even if you can flash/modify a USDM ROM on ECU MSD80, you may not know the coding for the EDM ROM on the same ECU, and therefore would be unsafe to try to flash or modify the code. I dont know if that exactly the case here, but maybe that helps explain more.
