Sadly, you may be right! The "M5 CS" is already an oxymoron, but that's obviously not going to stop BMW from taking even the CSL badge all the way to the top of the product hierarchy.

Most people that buy these do not care about this automotive contradiction. They want the fastest, most expensive version regardless of what it is and what it is supposed to represent. BMW knows it, and they will gladly leverage their latest badging to add layers of margin, while also enabling them to price discriminate based on what someone is willing to pay for what is essentially the same car. Gone are the days when the engineers and driving enthusiasts influenced more of the offerings. BMW MBAs, however, are doing their best work

Oops, I mean .

It will be fast for sure but too big. M5 Competition is all you need to storm the autobahn or take long cross country trips. CS badge for track and tight twisty roads should only be slapped on M2/M3/M4.

Is it still in the M60 -> S63 lineage with the 98mm bore spacing? I'm guessing it is if it comes in 4.4 still instead of being closer to a pair of B48s thrown together.

Scott mentioned i7 which I presume will be an electrified version/derivative of the next-gen 7 Series. An EQS competitor. Could be the iNEXT too.

X1 M35i and the 2er GC M35i should both sell incredibly well.

Nothing I personally would buy, but definitely interesting times ahead.

The Urus has 650ps and that is the same base engine that is in the RS6/7. If the performance version of those cars comes out in a year or so with 650ps you’d imagine BMW will be quite close to that number

Wishful thinking I know, but with all the various vehicles available today with 700bhp BMW should want in. And what better car to do it with than the M5. Dynos are already showing a tad over 600 ft-lb of max torque at the wheels for a stock M5C, which is very underrated by BMW at 553btq. It's possible the M5 CS gets rated at around 580 ft-lb of torque at the engine while actually producing 635 ft-lb at the wheels. BMW also underrates hp on the M5C where their bhp rating is actually the amount of what's getting produced at the wheels.

So more likely the M5 CS will be producing something like 640whp/635wtq. Getting rated by BMW somewhere around 640bhp/580btq. But we all know it should be 700bhp! C'mon BMW, join the 700 club.

Well I'll be more impressed if they get M5CS lighter..., also a true hardcore M5 probably doesn't make much sense, what's CS suppose go be? Like competition is occasional track and CS frequent is more frequent track?

They just won't join 700HP club yet.

I really don't care because mine F90 M5 that I tuned had 850HP
