We lost over 2' of snow in the last week. My skate ring (post # 3315) is now a dry driveway and the grass is green

Yup, a big Euc came down in my neighborhood the other day. Took out the lines that you can see to the right of the frame and we were without power for about a day. Also didn't do much for the pickup that was parked next to it. Damn Eucs. Dirty, smelly, messy, and they fall over waaayyy too easy (that wasn't the only one in the area).
Still having very strong winds here. Rain is mostly over, but boy it's been blowing. |

Got about 2" overnight, according to my rain bucket. I think the official rain site says we are up to about 8" for the season! 12 is normal. Still under a flash flood warning, and one more pulse of moderate rain expected in the afternoon.

Yesterday's freezing rain turned my driveway into a skating rink again but finally we got some snow overnight and luckily it bonded with the ice so its not slippery anymore.

We're in-between rain storms right now. More to come. 'Bomb cyclone' is what they're calling this series of storms we're getting here in California.
Nothing like what they're getting up north, though. We get a lot of flooding. |

Quote:
The municipal wharf in Santa Cruz was slightly damaged and the wharf/downtown Capitola (a few miles South) was decimated, with a section of the wharf gone, and multiple businesses near the mouth of Soquel Creek had their windows caved in by the storm surge. A few miles South of that near us in Rio Del Mar, the surge took out about half of the pier that (used to) stretch from the shore to the stern of the beaten-up cement ship, and also inundated the homes and businesses in the flats. In the picture I took this morning you can see the debris on the beach in the foreground, the stern of the cement ship on the left and what's left of the pier to the right. In the background is the Southern part of Capitola just across the bay. So far at our house we've had about 30 inches of rain since the beginning of December. Forecast is for another 5 between now and next Tuesday. As my Italian buddy says, "Eeesa-crazy!" Some video: Last edited by Chick Webb; 01-06-2023 at 12:48 PM.. |
