Seems like a massive effort.
Try another tuner.

I dealt with jake from motiv for 3 months before I give up.

He sent me nothing but off the shelf Maps. Never tuned how I asked and never answered any questions. Cost me around $500 for nothing.

We are in the same place mate. The 7670 with the IWG seems to be beyond him. Vince is working on a custom fit up on a N54 waste gate set up. Did I mention he is a legend . Oh I see he has posted the details already lol

I am certain we could be at this for a few months longer with no real progress.

The issue is that we cannot get much response out of the wastegate with the boost box. At 50% WGDC we get nothing but wastegate spring pressure out of the turbo. It requires around 70-80% to get some boost out of it. But after repeated attempts asking we have only received 45-50% wgdc maps. They have given us a boost box that operates at a higher frequency to match up with the EFR solenoid but this had very little effect. They don't appear to be interested in answering our questions or addressing our comments/concerns in the emails responses which also massively adds to the frustration. It really doesnt feel like they are working with us, and in general all the maps have been stabs in the dark.

We have decided to go with the N54 wastegate actuator, which in theory should allow OEM-like control of the EFR. Not having a 3rd party converter in the way is also a big plus. We will work with a local tuner in Melbourne who will be much more responsive than working with a busy company in the USA.

In order to fit the N54 wastegate actuator on the EFR, I have to fabricate up a bracket to make it fit. The N54 actuator is a 3 bolt pattern and the EFR IWG actuator is a 2 bolt. An adapter plate needs to be constructed, similar to those alloy wheel PCD adapters.

A couple of the guys at my work have constructed a mini foundry to melt metals, they got a huge number of old hard drives and melted down all the metal for projects. I obtained one of the melted down muffins and machined the outside round shape on my lathe. This worked very well and the material is quite good with little defects or porosity. The material itself appears to be a magnesium/aluminium alloy, it machines very well and forms fine chips instead of strings when machined.

I did a CAD drawing in Sketchup, but found the export options quite poor. It was still useful visualizing the part and making sure it can actually be made. If the bolt spacing for the EFR was different, it may overlap the holes for the N54 wastegate and I would have to make the part from 2 pieces. It ended up being possible to make it from one piece, and I redid the part in QCAD for the 2D export. I printed this out at 1:1 ratio and overlaid the paper on the metal part, then centre punching all the holes. I then drilled out all the holes using a drill press.

I found the 14mm holes for the N54 wastegate were too small to fit any of my sockets in. I ended up machining a spare socket so I could actually assemble the part.

Finishing touches required are:

- 14mm holes for the N54 actuator nuts were drilled with a normal drill. This has a 60degree point, but I need a flat hole. 14mm end mill has been purchased
- Stud holes for the EFR have not been tapped all the way. A normal M6 tap can't go very deep. Have ordered an M6 bottoming (plug) tap to finish the hole all the way down.
- The N54 wastegate rod is too short by about 10mm This makes it hard to extend. If it was very short itd be easy, put a coupling nut on it and screw in a threaded rod. Will need to cut the rod and extend it out, and hopefully the coupler won't interfere with the wastegate arm. M6 threaded rod has been ordered
Awesome write up and leet fabricating skills mate, just awesome 👍👍👍

If Motive is giving you grief they are more active on other fora and you are likely to get a better response by complaining there.
They aren't on here i think.

Yeah that will just be a waste of time, they are either incapable of tuning it or aren't interested in putting any effort into it. Either way complaining about it won't help.

As always, if you want it done right, do it yourself. Better off spending effort into getting it to work ourselves (ie making the N54 adapter).

We will be working with one of the local forum members (T1M) who has been working on the custom tune on my car. Very happy with his tune and he has agreed to take on this project as well. Will be infinitely better having someone who listens and can have a proper conversation with.

Only mentioned it because Brule was having issues with AD and raising it in various fora did the trick for him but also raised awareness I agree though you would be better off with a local tuner. Is T1M sydney or Melbourne based ?

T1M has already written and sent a base map and a set of boosted maps to try out in under 48 hrs .... now that’s great service

Postie made a delivery today

Not as exciting when the you know what's in the box because the brand name is splashed everywhere

Regardless is nice to get some car parts delivered.... this time a new maxton design front lip to replace the one I damaged in Tassie

This one was direct from MD in the UK, only took a week to get here via FedEx

Finish is textured, not a flat gloss like the one i'm replacing

Hopefully we get some nice weather on the weekend for the install

Hmm, textured finish is something different.
Looks good.
Hopefully its easy to clean, gloss is easy as it just wipes off, so hopefully you dont get any build up of dirt over time.

Sounds like you are on the right path now Socks and Vince... Look forward to the performance figures this is going to punch out...

Sounds like the US are spoiled for business and so helping someone in dingo land is a low priority.

Ahh phil. This sounds like an absolute nightmare for you.
What a drama this has been.

I honestly don't get the remote tuning deal. It's actually not as simple as bmw people seem to make it out. On a good condition standard car i guess you can get it pretty close. But on somethin like this that you need to extract power from and everything is one off and unique to this car it'd drain me not having my eyes and ears on it while tuning.

I must say. I will laugh if you end up with wastegate rattle hahha.

I wish you best of luck boys. Keen to see some logs as well. Currently doing a ST build which will rival your efr i think. And if you end up not using the boost box id be keen to have a play with it if you wanna send it up. See if they really are any good.

Nice sunny day in Melbourne today, so whipped off the front bumper to replace the broken front lip

For anyone looking for a lip to fit M3 replica front bar on the E92, I can highly recommend this maxton design front lip. It can be purchased from the maxton design website in the UK... just select the E92 M3 front lip. Fits the replica M3 front bar perfectly
