Not quite dinner yet. Picked-up some President's Choice® Black Label Wagyu hamburger patties just out of curiosity.

According to their site, they use Kobe beef which I find a bit odd since very little is imported into Canada and why make hamburger patties?

At about $5 a patty, it better be good as I can make an awesome burger using my butcher's filet mignon for about $1.50.

I will report after dinner if it was worth the expense.

There is apparently a different grade/standard for labeling something as Kobe beef in North America. Feel free to Google it if you're under-whelmed with those burgers.....

It's a flat out lie to say that brand is using Kobe beef because it is not. Hardly any genuine Kobe beef (Tajima-gyu from Hyogo Prefecture in Japan) is actually exported. It sure as hell ain't going to be made into burger patties and frozen either. $5 would maybe get you a bite of the real stuff.

From Chophouse Steaks in Halifax website. For package of two 10oz striploin steaks. Two 12oz striploin steaks are $350/pkg.
I'd love to try it sometime but I'm not sure I can justify that price to myself.

Impressions:

Unlike other frozen patties, it did not shrink.
It did taste very good.
Was not worth the price considering other options.
Now I have a first hand opinion.
Would not buy it again.

My dad got me some American Wagyu strip steaks as a gift and to me, a little goes a long way. Great marbling is one thing, but Wagyu is way too rich for me to eat in “normal” portions. I know I’m in the minority, but it’s just not something I enjoyed all that much. I don’t regret trying it but wouldn’t buy it myself.
