So you fixed all the problems for someone else and then downgraded. Smart move.

?? wastegate rattle was getting really bad and with them continually losing value why end up paying more than what it's worth in a few years? Also warranty covered most everything and that was ending soon. Smarter move financially to get out now.

Plus more of an import guy. Loved the bmw when it was working good, just was time to move on.

Funny now how much I see posts about all the problems people have though, it's like half the main page all the time.

Since he was alone, I went out of my car and helped him to get up and provided assistance to him to get inside Tim Hortons. He was ok, in good mental health (as far as I can tell) not hurt, just clumsy. Took 2-3min max I think. Came back to my car, already lineup of cars behind me, but everyone saw what I was doing so they were patiently waiting and not honking. I press the pedal, push button to start the car - nothing happens. I push pedal press button for many many times - still nothing. At this point I became slightly worried. I'm trying to get keyfob out of slot - it won't budge. I tried to push it in - there's no click sound, it's stuck, but I can't start the car. I hear first honks behind me. I'm getting really worried. I get out of car and run to open the hood to get battery terminals off to reset possible glitch and hoping that this will help reset keyfob relay holding it in slot. I quickly realize battery is in the trunk, duh brain freeze. I run to the trunk and frantically am trying to loosen 10mm bolt on negative battery terminal. I don't have any tools with me. I run back to the line of cars behind me and start asking drivers if they have 10mm socket. Finally on my 3rd car I got lucky and one driver lends me 10mm ratchet and goes with me as he is curious what is the issue holding already 10-12 cars behind me. I quickly pull negative terminal off the battery and after 10sec or so waiting I put it back in hope that this fixed the glitch. Constantly chatting voice from ordering stand of Tim Hortons starts to ask me to move on and what is the problem. I'm trying to explain briefly situation to the girl who takes orders and she says she will call her boss to see if they can help me somehow. Simultaneously I'm trying to start the car again - still nothing. Keyfob is still stuck in the slot. In my mind i already think about tow-truck and $$$ that I'm going to pay for towing, diagnostics, complete ignition/keyfob slot removal, installing new unit, keyfob reprogramming - my mind starts to panic. I'm desperately trying to find a solution. I am thinking of pushing the car through drive-through, but the buidling wall is close to drivers door and I can't steer and push a tteh same time and in addition keep the door wide open to jump in and break when need be - I need someone to steer the wheel while I push or someone to push while I steer, but a slight slope and absence of any young drivers to help push my bmw, mostly retired folks that are getting very impatient and annoyed by all this situation - makes this idea useless. Some of drivers in the middle of lineup can't get out now - they are stuck with me and have to wait until this situation resolves somehow. At this point I'm all soaked wet from stress and silliness of situation. I'm waiting for a manager of Tim Hortons to come. I sit in my seat and experience an episode of complete apathy and surrender. Suddenly with the corner of my eye I notice something is wrong, something is off in the cabin - automatic transmission is way to low - it's in D mode! Damn! I'm an idiot! I put it into P and start the car with no problem. Needles to say I skipped my order and rushed out of there after saying sorry to people around me. It's going to be awhile now until I come back to that Tim Hortons. I've never thought such things can happen to me...
Sh*** happens.

Waste gate rattle was a warranty item. The new parts were redesigned to eliminate the issue. Prices have catered and stabilized.

So like I said, you fixed it for someone, downgraded, and also tRade from one not depreciating to one that is. Good move.

Did you buy that 335 new or used?

I suspect it was wrecked or damaged.

07' one owner, Monaco blue with beige interior, 62k super clean in and out. Sport/navigation/cold weather etc.. Got it for $14.5k last January.

Just "normal" things though, water pump went out twice, hpfp, new battery, oil pan gasket, oil.filter housing gasket, some suspension stuff. Having the car a year and already having $8k+ worth of warranty work isn't really normal.

Water pimp twice is abnormal. Mine lasted 200k. Hpfp, sounds like the original bit the dirt and you got the new revised one that lasts. Gaskets were ol . They typically last 100k. Idk what suspension stuff. Battery is an age issue. Same for any car. They last 5 yrs. The wastegate rattle meant you'dhave gotten new revised turbos free. Not much else goes wrong. Like I said, you fixed everything. And you probably could have sold it for more than you bought it for.

And the work he listed isn't 8k unless it includes turbos, which are warranty too.

At 92k miles, changed the water pump and thermostat so I hopefully won't get stranded anywhere. All I can say is I was covered in grease, coolant, and caterpillars for a good 5 hours. But now I can go on a road trip and not have to worry as much. More maintenance coming soon...

Newsflash, BMW IS an IMPORT. Good luck with the WRX. Let us know when you get tired of rice and want sophistication again.

New part redisigned? Wastegates? You are wrong! No remedy for that. Regarding depreciation, 335i depreciates more than the rest of 3-series. In Chicago market they actually sell for less compared to equially equipped e90 330i and e92 328i because it's the least reliable. The 335i is slowly turning into the next Eclipse from the early 2000's owned and tuned by teenagers on allowance. '07 & '08 with around 100k could be had for less than $10k. I seriously don't understand where you see the value in these cars.

I was curious why WRX but not at all surprised why he got rid of the 335i

Depending on where the work was done those repairs could easily add up to $8k. Regarding waterpump, I'm on second replacement as well at 75k. Typical for 335i that spend a lot of time in traffic and climate changes. I work on these locally, I know ...

Spent the past few weeks refreshing the interior a bit. Swapped my aluminum trim for bamboo anthracite. Need to plug that gap in the center trim, bought m3 trim without realizing it had extra buttons. Thought about maybe putting a valentine one concealed display there and having a surround 3D printed, or maybe a display for something else. If you've got any ideas lmk

Valentine, radar jammer control, bass level control for a sub, aftermarket alarm indicator, air ride controls, phone holder or USB outlets, etc. Depends on your needs.
