Correct - the "purests" (for lack if a better term) say that soap leaves some type of taste even if it's very very small. I think it's just a snobby elitist thing

If you want, I can take money off you all day betting whether I can tell if a glass was run thru a dishwasher or not; and unless you rinse the hell out of it, I can smell most dish soaps too. Not a snob/elitist thing at all - if I'm going to enjoy the subtleties of a good single malt I don't want it ruined by perfume.
And it is 'purists' - "A purist is one who desires that an item remain true to its essence and free from adulterating or diluting influences" (OK, gotta admit to a touch of language elitism). |

As to scents and soaps and not using any soaps at all on your tasting glasses, I’m not that sensitive so just choose less scented detergents, so you’re not sniffing Palmolive lemon instead of the subtler hints imparted by your libations. True test would be to sniff a clean glass and describe what aromas you’re getting? |

I use soap when I wash my glasses. I can't tell the difference when smelling or tasting, but I also use a fairly clean/no odor soap.
Had the new Blood Oath Pact 6 last night and it was good. I think I still prefer my Pact 5 over the new one though.

Here tonight's selection. Bit of a rough day, dealing with vendor incompetence...
This is one of my favorite affordable sherry bombs. Fun fact - There are some bottles out in circulation that are older than the age statement due to the distillery closing down for a few years. I've not had any of these myself unfortunately, and I believe they are very hard to find. Something to look for if you are hunting dusty shelves for treasure! Yeah, he's a little nuts. We have quite a few Japanese whisky's at our house as well. We were just there in Nov & you could hardly find anything. It's crazy how much Japanese whisky has become so popular in the past 3+ years.

I usually drink black label. Anyone got a whiskey they'd recommend similar to it to give a try? And how much better is blue label, worth the extra 100+ dollars?

I can't go as big as this, so I've just been focused on Japan this year. Currently at 9 bottles, though a good 3 of those I should just clear out and finish before they get oxidized from so much room in the bottle.

Blue Label is ok, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra cash. My buddy is the Whiskey Consultant for JW, his favourite daily is Double Black and I quite like it too. My wife and I actually find the Gold Lable to be our favourite of the JW line but rally it's all about what you like. JW Swing is a great buy when you can find it.
