There are three things that can happen: 1. The AP saves off the dinan flash an puts our tune on. 2. The AP says it must overwrite the tune meaning, if you continue, the Dinan flash will be gone forever. 3. The AP is unable to flash over the tune requiring the car to be returned to stock first. In the case where the AP overwrites a tune: The AP, having never seen your actual stock ROM, will put back an appropriate stock ROM that may or may not be what your car had originally. I hope this helps, Rob |

Those are some solid looking dynos for the 335xi. Looking forward to the final product. Any data on A/F ratio? Any dynos of bone stock 335xi's?

If the 335xi is getting those numbers, I'm going to be really, really happy.

The xi dyno charts are my car. Running just a DCI. Ran a pull w/jb3 map 5, pulled the jb3, ran a stock pull 25 minutes later, then installed the AP and did that run. Go to the cobb website to see all the graphs, you can also see AFR and boost. I posted a thread about it here..
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=473908 On a side note- the guys at Cobb in Plano are awesome. Calvin and Chris really know what they are doing! When we had to pull the jb3, they were making fun of me..."your kidding, you have to do this every time!..."

That's awesome, I ordered the AP on Thursday figuring it would be sorted out by the time it made it up to the great white north.
Are there any concerns running the AP in extreme cold weather. I've read that the DME can be boost happy in cold temperatures. Phil |

It's the other way around, the ECU in stock form will reduce boost in cold temps.

Just for giggles, here's the 335i and 335xi runs overlaid. Not surprisingly, they're basically clones. I'd attribute the slight differences to simple tune-to-tune variation.
The only metric I thought interesting was the early AFR lean condition running later on the xi. It took almost 1000rpms more for the xi to settle down to 12. Last edited by AWD Addict; 01-11-2011 at 12:07 AM.. |

Rob,
I have another technical question for you. Perhaps this has already been answered and I've missed it. How are things handled when it comes to ECU version upgrades? Example: my car just got back from a software recall last week. The BMW dealer installed ISTA 2.40.2 which essentially wiped my GIAC Stage 1. Not only that, but now my ECU is reporting a different internal part number. Naturally, I have to wait for GIAC to release an updated flash tune for the latest BMW firmware. This is important because the latest firmware versions contain instructions and algorithms which allegedly help prevent failures of HPFP. How are things done with the COBB access port? I see that I can download the Stage 1 map for free and I can always update my ECU if it gets wiped out by the dealer. But wouldn't that revert my formware version? The way things are handled in GIAC world are as follows: * GIAC installer obtains a "read file" directly from my ECU. * GIAC installer submits this file to GIAC central along with customer information * GIAC prepares an updated flash file specifically tailored to my ECU number and software version, thus preserving the BMW updates. * GIAC installer then loads the file into my ECU. Obviously this is somewhat inconvenient because I have to go see a GIAC installer. How is COBB handling this?

I think Cobb does the same. You will try to run the AP with your new ecu flash from bmw and the AP will error. You then email the file that the AP grabs to Cobb and a new tune will be developed for benefit of everyone on that new bmw flash. I think they stated 5 day turn around.
