Just got my Car back today, Had to have injector #5 mosfet replaced, and coil on injector #5. Back on the road for a fraction of what it would have cost to replace the DME.

My p30bb code is accompanied by a “error injector, power level 2” Edit: just saw the very helpful video posted on the previous page, thank you for making that! Are the msd80/msd81 plug and play? Is there an advantage to the 81? I see them going for $100-150 on ebay. Do these require programming?

After I flashed MHD stage 1, I got the internal fault codes mentioned here. Under warranty, the dealer replaced the dme to msd81.
After hard driving, the same cylinder 2 misfire came on again. Could it be the coil that is still messing up here or if it was just the MOSFET, shouldn't it have been fixed since the dme was fully replaced? |

Its the coil. Many others including me needed to replace both the mosfet and the coil on same cylinder to fix the misfire. If you want to be sure, Swap cylinder 2 coil to another cylinder to confirm.

Hey all - I just went through this issue and appear to be in the thick of it again. I'm just looking for any ideas/possible assist.
I had the 30BA code come up last week (about a week ago). I ordered the mosfets and received them last friday. My buddy and I replaced (all 6) - the code was ONLY for cylinder 1 and when we TESTED using the beep method (from youtube)...only cylinder 1 tested bad. BUT I ordered 8 new mosfets (figuring I'd replace all of them). Long story short - changing out injectors and plugs and coils - I am AGAIN getting the same 30BA code...however before the code popped up - I just received a 29CD - misfire to cyl 1. I cleared it hoping maybe it was just a plug, but now 30BA popped up and won't clear (just like last week). It is only telling me injectors 1,2 or 3 - not specific to any one at this point. I'm going to pull the DME - again and test the mosfets again - but is it possible that after driving for about 50 miles the solder or some type of connection failed? Is it possible that a previous O2 sensor code is causing an issue (a 2C3B code that popped up) last week when the 30BA came up, I figured it was because of the DME though...now I'm wondering if the 2C3B code is the root cause??? I'm going batty trying to figure out this...the car was running great yesterday and this morning until it just pooped on me. ![]() Any ideas/thoughts appreciated.

How about you replace the Mosfet for inj#1 and you replace the injector itself. Is possible that the injector is internally damaged causing the Mosfet to short out. Since you are DIYer you can do this on the cheap. Just source one good used injector.
Maybe you will find this useful http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...hic_temp/B1202 I replaced one Mosfet (the injector too) and it dint't fix the issue with the DME |

![]() EDIT we removed the mosfet from the DME - we tested the mosfet and it was good. We tested the DME location and it 'beeped' at us. It turns out the solder flux was causing a 'short' or connection where there shouldn't be one. Making it appear as if the mosfet was blown (again). When in fact it was not. Sooooo, it would appear that you have to be careful with how much flux you use and what type. My buddy that helped me on this and used a bit too much and it would appear that the flux looked like the board itself was burned - turned out the flux (burned) and was easily removed by my finger. Once I did that the board is again testing a-okay. The mosfet is good and we are soldering it back on tonight. I will re-install tomorrow and hopefully all will be good again. I just wanted to give as much info as possible for anyone else.

Hey guys,
So I got this problem last night. Got a BUNCH of the codes described in this thread and car went into limp mode. Tried to clear the codes with COBB...they cleared and came right back. Anyone has a part number or link to where to get mosfet? COBB indicated the following codes: 30bb - DME digital motor electronics, internal failure 0305 0306 0304 0300 29d1 - Misfire Cyl 5 29d2 - Misfire Cyl 6 29d0 - Misfire Cyl 4 29d9 - something about misfiring with low fuel level 29cc - Misfire Multiple Cylinders |

I recommand this reference. ![]() |

I did not - even though I had 2 extras - I never once have heard of any problems with those two - have no idea what they are for...therefore I did not touch them. I just replaced ALL 6 at once I did NOT want to have to go through all this again - especially with the risk of losing an injector. I felt it was easy money to replace the 6.

Can anyone link to the correct MOSFET for an MSD80. The markings on the bad MOSFET are IRFW644B. There appear to be many chips with different specs. I want to get the correct one. Thanks!

https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail...512-FDB14N30TM From my research - they are an 'upgrade': FDB14N30TM I had them in a couple days. Also - you do realize - the part numbers are literally a couple posts above yours?
