Just had the water pump/thermo/upper and lower radiator hoses and coolant sensor replaced today proactively. I love this car, but god damn, the new M3, m235i... 135is or e90 M3 all look so good. Must... stay.... focused... they're just cars....

135k and still going strong.
I preemptively did the following about 3 months ago. Nothing was wrong with the car but figured it needed to be done: * New Waterpump * New Valve Cover Gasket * New hoses * New Thermostat * Oil Change Hopefully get more out of this car

I few people posted about replacing hoses at just over 100,000 miles. For peace of mind, I just replaced all 9 hoses at 7 years and 9 months and 237,000 miles. Every hose was still in good shape and easily had another 50,000 miles left in them (my estimate). None were cracked and none had hard or soft spots and all the plastic was good. IMO it is a waste of money to do hoses on the N52 at 100,000 or anywhere near past 150,000. The parts alone are around $600 retail at a shop (if you are paying someone to do the work) and $460 as a DIY. My concern was the u-shaped hose from the t-stat to water pump, that one takes most of the abuse, so if you replace one, might as do all of them.
If you are not planning to keep your car past 10 years and 200K, I'd not consider a hose refresh. Just food for thought. |
