If some of you guys can't figure the simple things I definetly would not attempt to code your car. It gets much more complicated ahead.
That cable there will definitely work for 2006, because mine is pretty much identical. Not sure about the other Pre-LCI years though. That cable will definitely not work with 2009-2011.

I need some help

Please someone can help me? I have an E90 from 2006 with xenon lights. Is there any way to code the car so I can make FLSAH with xenon and halogen lamp together ? Can I make some coding on FRM to make this?

There's a line in the spreadsheet that supposedly allows this. Maybe try it and let us know how it goes? If you already tried that with no luck, then you might be stuck since people are (theoretically at least) posting values they discover to that spreadsheet.

Newer connector?

They are all the same OBD-II connectors! It's the connections that matter.

I'm guessing he/she meant the connector with Pin 8 removed, or a cable that supports DCAN rather than just the older K-Line. Not all OBD-II connectors support the same protocols.

Vendor name is 'Automotive-Tools'

Cables may look similar, but their quality and reliability is not...
Sometimes it's easier to just tell people to go straight to their website. "Automotive-Tools" is www.one-stop-electronics.com. It never changes.

Did this work? Any updates?
Im installing my recaros soon and I would rather code than buy the module.

Thanks

I understand the differences in cables and meant to just clarify that the connectors are the same. It's the connections inside the connector (and some circuitry) that might be different.

Sorry must be the EE in me coming out.

I hear ya, but there's already enough confusion about this and having the right connector won't make somebody with the wrong cable feel much better, lol.

Yeah that's what I meant. The one with Pin-8 removed.

Nope. I never got anything to work properly regarding coding. Couldn't ever get stuff to communicate, read, write, etc., there was always some problem somewhere in the end. I gave up on all coding and ended up just paying people to do things to my car, and I'm content with that. My laptop broke months ago when I spilled coffee on it anyways, I took that as a sign. I decided to just stay away from coding forever so that my car won't end up on fire.

hahah damn. So what youre saying is, coding for the seats can be done, but you just cant do it
So no need to buy the module, right?

And what sort of codes pop up when installing the seats? Is it just the one telling you that the airbags are turned off?

Thanks

prior removing the seats, disconnect the battery
put the seats back, plug all the connectors and connect the battery at the end
will not trigger airbag light

What is this, black magic?!?

Never heard of such a thing. So will my passenger dash airbag still work? And even with this method, how does the car not know that there is no more side/seat airbag.

I ordered mine today...I have a 2006 E90 (325xi), and am wanting to change my battery. Planning to use the cable and associated s/w to register my new battery.

mikey.

It works for that, I've done it. There are DIYs on this forum, search register battery. Use the Tool32 method, not INPA.

Joy and Pain

The joy: My cable arrived today....didn't expect it until atleast next week.
The Pain: I can't seem to get this to work.

I'm running Windows XP in a VMWare Fusion virtual machine on Mac OSX Lion.
I have a 2011 335i E90.

I've installed the software (NCSEXPER.rar) as per the NCS_DIY.pdf file at the beginning of the thread.

Of course I'm using the "recommended" cable from "one-stop electronics", or vendor 'Automotive-Tools' on ebay.

It also came with an additional adapter: see below

Not sure if I should be using the adapter or not? I've tried with and without the adapter and still no joy.

I did remove the cable headshell, after reading some thread notes about removing 8 pin. It looks like pin is still soldered in on my cable. Do I need to desolder pin 8 in order for the cable to work on a 2011???

If you have an adapter then Pin 8 is deactivated; the purpose of the adapter is to reactivate it for older cars. And no you shouldn't be using it on a 2011. Automotive-tool always deactivates Pin 8, so if it looks active to you, you might be looking at the wrong pin.

As far as your issue, "I can't get it to work" is way too broad for us to help you out. What part of the DIY are you stuck on? Are you seeing a particular error message or behavior? Have you updated your daten since you're coding a 2011? The more info you provide, the more we can help.
