Question: how do you safely put DCT in neutral while driving (to coast or to blip the throttle)?
Thanks, Greg |

I was wondering the same thing... I think that over a certain vehicle speed it disables that option. I noticed while in parking lots or in the driveway while in first gear it will allow me to go into neutral but at speed it will not. I also wondered how to do it for when time calls on the dyno. I'm used to having a manual trans car and being able to push the clutch in and put her in neutral. It always seemed a little scary (in my head) that doing a full throttle pull on the dyno and then just letting up on the throttle when done and then having that large drum with all that momentum still driving the wheels/trans until the dyno brake completely stops the drum. |

Different Question: I have a pad in place to prevent the kick-down switch on the throttle pedal. What's the best way to launch the car without the kick-down switch?
ex: (not exactly a launch, but this was the scenario) - I was trying to pull out of a parking lot onto a busy street and needed to get up to speed quickly from a dead stop. I pretty much floored it from a dead stop and had so much hesitation that I was barely able to get into the flow of traffic... This may just be me still trying to get used to the car, but it seemed excessive (almost like my old 2.0 WRX with a large turbo and lots of lag) |

Is your fuel pump going bad? I know when mine was failing, I had crazy amounts of hesitation when trying to apply a lot of throttle at once.

First post in a while here....

Here in Los Angeles, BMWs are everywhere. That being said, at least once a week, and sometimes more than once a day, someone notices my 335is and gives me a thumbs up or asks about it. That's all good and fine, but truthfully, I don't buy my cars for recognition or the "look at me" factor. I buy them because I like driving them. I bought my current IS as my daily driver. What's not to love about a fully equipped rocketship convertible in Los Angeles? Unfortunately, I had an issue with a clunking sound in my door that had been driving me nuts for the last few months. I was actually so frustrated that I considered selling it. Took 5 trips to the dealer and 7 attempts to fix it - twice they said it was fixed, but then said it wasn't and needed another day. They finally figured it out last Monday. A problem in the top was causing it to flex which translated down the window to the actuator in the door. So now It's cool, I'm going to keep it, and I'm looking for things to do to it to make it more "mine." Already added an OEM rear spoiler. First move will be to get rid of the OEM runflats. (They have less than 3000 on them and I will probably sell them here.) I currently have 19" 313s and between the 19s and the runflats, the ride is just to harsh for my liking. Option 1 is keeping the 313s - which I like - and getting a set of Michelin PSSs in 235/35/19 and 265/30/19. I don't think I'll have any rubbing problems??? Option 2 is getting a set of 18" anthracite Apex EC7s with MPSS 235/40/18 and 265/35/18s. Should be lighter and a bit better ride. I prefer the overall look of the 19s, but I already cracked (and replaced) one and I just don't have the confidence in my ability to avoid every pothole... Next will probably be blacking out the chrome window/top trim. Might have it wrapped black or just replace it all with shadowline trim. Some light window tinting, blacking out the side markers, and possibly a front lip will round out the initial cosmetics. As for performance, I'm thinking a Quaife LSD and a Cobb tune, but I may wait until the CPO warranty expires to do one or both of those. She's got 30K on her now and I have till 11/17 on the warranty. Decisions, decisions.... Ain't it fun! |

Yes, and generally the car hauls butt. It was just a horrible feeling when I tried pulling into traffic from a dead stop. It was more like the tranny didn't get into gear quickly enough or something... Not sure. I'll try to recreate it and see what I can come up with.
I'll also plug in the laptop and see what codes it might have thrown. |

I would occasionally get the same thing when I used to run a JB4. It usually happened in a high load WOT situation, i.e. going full throttle while cruising along at 2k-3k rpm regardless of the gear I was in.

I recently updated the jb4 to the newer 28.5 firmware. If you haven't done it already, I'd recommend doing it. It fixed the few issues I was having with timing and throttle closure. Put a little e85 for the first time also and it was a game changer.

Alright fellas. Placed my order today for a black / black M4. Should be here by end of April. Got one more month with the IS and it's been a blast. This forum has been outstanding. Enjoy!
