As I stated earlier, it never happened to me before with a 2007.2 burned copy for about 11 months and it did it with the 2008.1 burned copy after 4 days and it was actually the warmest day last week in Maryland in a while, ~73F.
Let's see how it goes.

Hi all....

I recently purchased a 2004 745li that was missing the Nav disc. I've dled this one and burned it to a dvd, but it's not working in my car. Then I read through alot of this thread and it seems you are all using it in newer bmws. I have the dvd nav system, but i keep getting an error. It first says that there is no nav disc in the drive and then after a while it says that the installation is only 70% complete and the disc is missing information. do you suppose that this 2008.1 is only for newer bmws? i am burning another copy now with a different program to see if maybe my first burn was no good.

If I am not mistaken, the navigation DVDs do not come with the vehicle from the factory. Your dealership supplies it at the time of delivery. Therefore, it was your dealership, which chose to hand you an old DVD, rather than giving you the latest one. So, it is probably one of two things:
  1. Your dealership still has a supply of 2007.2 disks that they want to get rid of before they start handing out the 2008.1 disks. If so, they are douchebags.
  2. Your salesperson (like mine) is a lazy retard and (among other things) does not have a clue that the 2008.1 disk is even out. If so, he should not be selling BMWs. He should be selling used Fords.
Either way, I would go back and ask them to give you the latest disk.

BTW, has anyone else noticed that Navteq has switched from the nice plastic DVD jewel cases to the crappy cardstock kind? I guess they are going green. Al Gore probably got a woody afterwards.
I talked to him a week before my car came in to make sure he knew i wanted a 2008 dvd. He said thats how it came to the dealer. He believes its the VPC that puts them into the car. Hopefully he is getting me on.

Feb production - received 2008.1

I just took delivery of my E90 335i sedan (in Canada). It came with the 2008.1 disk.

By the way, first thing I did was duplicate the disk and am now using the backup day-to-day with seemingly no ill effects (after 2 days). I did this trivially on a Mac. If anyone needs help on this, let me know.

Yes, the VPC puts them in the car. The dealers have no control over it.

those of you who have successfully burned the .iso, what brand of DVD are you using? My nav does not recognize my TDK DVD+R.

So far I have seen Sony and Verbatim as viable options - anyone else?

just make sure you "close" the DVD after you burn it. And burn it at the slowest rate as possible.

DVD+R will give you issues, use a DVD-R disc instead and burn it at the slowest possible speed.

Maybe ask on a 7-series forum what DVD you should be looking for? Everyone on this forum is 3-series...

I have Sony and TDK +R. No problems with either.
I also used a Staples brand +RW and it also works.

I just burned with Verbatim DVD-R at 2x - works flawlessly. I didn't even have the 5-minute reboot message that some people are getting. It recognized the disk instantly.

thanks fellas
