I got visions of people futzin with this tune and potentially really screwing up their cars. I can understand offering this to people who know what the frick they are doing....but we all know there are tons of people that have no clue. Caveat emptor.

Also, although i trusted a pro to tune my WRX, i don't know if i would ever trust anyone to tune a 50k car that is relatively new on the market.

+1 I'd nuke this sucker in a heartbeat if I tried it myself. I pay the experts to give me what I need.

I'm sure there will be a lot of demand left for Shark Injector. All those who don't have a clue of anything will certainly go for it. Or then they let someone professional like Shiv to tune their car with SharkEdit.
However, tuning is not demanding at all. So many will be able to do it. I'm sure that those who can't, understand that they can't. |

Based on a lot of the posts I have read around here, I would not let AW tune a car. I mean NO disrespect by that, but even people with many YEARS of experience of actually seat time tuning, can run into trouble. God forbid the problems that will arise from someone who has never tuned a car, ESPECIALLY an FI car which is much more sensitive to tuning error.

E90AW335i...I read the first post you made..and I still go by my comments.
Jim Conforti said: Because some of you want to tune your car to different boost levels and different combinations of hardware parts. We will be releasing the OBD-I version of this software to sale on 01 JUN 08 and the OBD-II version (aka 335i) on 01 JUL 08. We will package it both alone, and with a "base tune". You can calibrate your car to your desired boost level and flash it back in the convenience of your own home/garage. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I dont know how long you have been on enthusiast car forums..but I have been on them for about 12 years now. I have heard all kinds of idiots doing things to their cars. What I am saying is that Jim's program is good for lots of folks who KNOW HOW TO TUNE CARS...but there are tons of people that have no idea what they are doing.."Oh wow man..I can put my car up to 27 lbs of boost..I am gonna haul" type people. People like this have no business futzin with boost levels..they CAN blow up (grenade) their engines if they dont watch it. All I am sayin is BE CAREFUL.

Another cool thing this opens us up to doing is getting custom tunes over the internet. They started doing this a few years ago on the Evo's.
The tuner sends you a map via e-mail, you install it, datalog a few runs, send data back to tuner, he adjusts map, sends you a new one and repeat until it's right. This would be nice because there are obviously going to be people who are better than other at tuning the car safely and you will still be able to get a custom tune from them without having to wait until they come to your area of the country once a year. |

There are others out there who aren't smart enough to realize they don't even know what they don't know. At least you've got that base covered. |

More misconceptions.
(1) as I read it, Kyle was interested in being a provider of tunes. He gets a site license and can inject a program (from Conforti or whomever) into your DME. He has no intention of cooking up his own programs. (2) that said, notwithstanding all the paranoia regarding renegade programmers blowing up engines, the beauty of the Shark system is that it provides an open venue. The opportunity to tweak and experiment is wide open. So the number of folks that can potentially contribute to tuning is going to expand dramatically. If BMW is smart they will use this as rich source of data. With hundreds of smart and not-so-smart owners trying out new ways to adjust programs on the CPUs, there will be some new and interesting ideas that BMW could potentially use. They will also have a new window on what owners want. I expect Eugen, for example, to be full of interesting ideas (as he has been in the past), that may be taken by the code experts (e.g., Malek?) that work out the details of the programming, test it for reliability and safety, and then incorporate it into a tune that can be marketed and sent back to owners (or SharkEdit dealers) online.
