Yes, thats correct. All of the BMW plans for all levels (powertrain+, gold, platinum) for all vehicles under 4yr / 50k are from the "in service" date. For me, that's May 2010. For anyone over the 4yr/50k original warranty, only the powertrain+ level is available and the "clock" for those plans is reset to the date you extended the warranty, but they are only offered as 1yr/12k, 2yr/24k or 3yr/36k. Hope that helps.

Ok, that does make more sense, cause I initially thought you meant 7yr/100k additional from what you have now. My quote of $3700 was for 6yr/72k additional coverage. I currently have a 2009 with 28k miles.

PS. $3700 even for a platinum 7/70 is kinda high (MSRP?). You can get that plan for as little as $2900, if you shop around.

If I understand you correctly, you got a 10/100 warranty from BMW for $3700? How'd you swing that?

Has anyone on this forum purchased a Fidelity Platinum extended warranty through a out of state dealership (with no pre-inspection required), but then made claims with it in your own state? If so, what was your experience?

I got a quote from him as well that originally matched Pacific (pre price hike) so already sent him an email this morning, if he honors it, he will get my business too

This new rule for under 10K miles and over 10K miles price categories for EW makes no sense - if something breaks after FW expiration, why would it matter when the extended warranty was purchased...unless BMW is betting on the fact that people who buy EW normally do this closer to FW expiration so if after almost 4 years of driving you only have less than 10K on your odometer, the chances that something big breaks are small, consequently it would be less out of pocket for BMW so they offer cheaper price for EW.

Either way, I'm still curious as to whether this 10k BS is an actual BMWNA thing or just a bunch of dealers (aka. Penske group for example) trying to fleece us for an extra few hundred bucks.

I am going with him since it is still cheaper than my local dealer that charges MSRP plus Pacific wanted me to mail my car key to them so they can do mileage reading while picture of the odometer was sufficient for Passport to process the purchase. This sucks, I am just a couple of days late and extra $250 is out of my pocket.

you can try hold him responsible to the guaranteed quote but not sure how much leverage it will give you. I kick myself now for procrastinating that long, my MF is still good until Oct so i thought i had plenty of time. BTW he gave me the same explanation about under/over 10K thresholds so its either indeed change by BMWNA or they all just decided to raise the price.

Powertrain + coverage still is available from BMW for you unless it has changed since BMW/NA put out some new crap April 1st.

You can buy a 'new' car warranty if you are still within the original factory warranty coverage. If you are out of the manufacturers 'new' car warranty, then you are buying a 'used' car warranty.
New car extended warranties begin with the original 'in-service date' and with odometer sitting on zero, regardless of when you buy it. If the warranty begins with the current date and mileage, then you are buying a used car extended warranty. New car extended warranties cover a lot more than used car extended warranties. Manufacturer extended warranties are almost always better than 3rd party warranties. Much better and you don't have to worry about the company going out of business. The dealership is making money on selling the extended warranty, so try to haggle. Even call around before you buy and talk to different finance (business) managers about what they'd charge if you came in and bought the warranty from them. You may get a better price. If the car is eligible for a new car extended warranty then another BMW can sell you the warranty, but you won't be able to finance it with the car loan. If it's not eligible for a new car warranty he won't be able to sell the extended warranty, at least not without an inspection which someone will have to pay for (you). Again, third party extended warranties are often a disappointment, esp for a car like the BMW where costs of repair are particularly high. Lastly but not least, if you buy from a corporate chain dealership make certain you are talking about a manufacturers warranty not a third party warranty. Corporate stores usually sell their own or 3rd party warranties for additional profit. |

However, you can still get an extended warranty through your BMW dealership called Fidelity. The Platinum level warranty actually covers more than BMWs EVP, and all work is done at dealership just like EVP with oem parts. With Fidelity, you can add up to 7yrs/72k more (i think) to your existing scenario...thus meaning 50k + 72k = coverage until 122k miles. Hope this helps! |

How do you go about getting a quote from Fidelity? I am considering buying an 09 that is out of warranty but less than 10k miles and interested in a quote. Thanks.

Matt Verost Business Manager BMW of Myrtle Beach 843-848-6800 He'll give you the best deal by far on a fidelity warranty! Also, make sure your state allows you to purchase a warranty from out of state. Some states don't. Mine did. |
