Picked up my car and they put a 933 in it. When I pointed out that the bulletin says 446 the SA was not aware of the change. He called the SM who explained to him that "they did not have any 446 in stock so they put it a 933 but both parts have the same improvements so they are basically the same." Would I be able to get the new part when it came in? "no, biut if any problems develop it will be covered". Why would BMW change he SIB to the new part number if it was basically the same part? "Dont know"
Was also told that BMW approved the replacement, wasmt told if they approved the specific part number(933) or just the actual replacement of the pump. Not real thrilled about the whole thing. My advice, call before you take your car in to make sure they have the right part.

I just read the bulletin again and I must have missed this the first time but at the bottom of the biulletin it says
Both parts numbers (P/N 13 51 7 613 933 and P/N 13 51 7 616 446) incorporate the same level of HDP quality improvements. If necessary, in order to expedite the repair time, you may use the P/N 13 51 7 613 933 from your center’s parts stock supply instead of ordering P/N 13 51 7 616 446 from PDC Doesnt make sense Ponder this thought: How can a part that the dealer has had in stock for months have the same level of improvemnts as the new part unless the new part is not improved

If its not too late I would start barking at my SA about this before they install the 933 pump. If they ever changed my SA I would stop going to that dealer. The dude is upfront and easy to communicate with, thats the type of SA you need. Last edited by BQTuning; 12-23-2010 at 04:22 PM.. |

In BMWs own words the new pump is no better than the old.
The bulletin states that the 933 can be used if the dealership does not have any of the new pump. "Both parts numbers (P/N 13 51 7 613 933 and P/N 13 51 7 616 446) incorporate the same level of HDP quality improvements" I do not see how they can have the same improvements if one has not gotten to the dealers yet and the other was already there unless the new one is no better than the 933, just a different number. Anyone else wondering about that?

Do good things come in threes? There are now 3 parts to this Voluntary Recall campaign (10E-A02), First new SW, then new Pump, now new injectors. At the very least BMW is taking some action here. Just hope this really fixes this problem once and for all.

Update: BMW NA told my SA that the 933 is of the same HDP? quality and that no change is needed. The 933 pump remains.. I picked up the car last night and notice a motorized sound once the car is unlocked.. I guess that is th sound of th pump being primed.. The car starts up instantly once the button is pushed. In addition, I notice the color of my nav in "night mode" being different? The screen is black intead of grey. In addition, in 3D perspective mode, there are stars in the sky.. It look very good.

The pumps may have different part numbers but BMW says they have the same immprovements and that either one can be installed for the recall.
Can anyone tell me how this is any different than what was being done before the "recall"? They were using reman 933 pumps before and still are. They were updating software and continue to do that. They have a new part number but it is basically the same part as before so that doesnt help much. If nothing changed then I wouldnt expect the results to be much different either. Dont mean to be a "piss in your pool" kind of guy but I had hopes for something to come from this recall and from what I am seeing so far I think this was more of a publicity thing than a real solution. You can remanufacture it, or give it a new name, but in the end it is still the same part.

NORAD says Santa down over North Atlantic!
NORAD's "Santa watch" website has just posted a bulletin stating they believe Santa and his sleigh went down somewhere over the North Atlantic after a stop at the Canary Islands.
NSA intercepted a brief satellite phone call to "North Pole Assist" in which Santa told them he thought he was having trouble with the HPFP (High Pressure Feed Pump) and the number 3 reindeer was already dead and hanging in the harness, while the others were showing signs of hay starvation. Rudolph's nose was out as well. Santa said the reindeer were going into limp mode and he was unable to maintain altitude. The call ended suddenly. Air / Sea rescue units from Portugal are hurrying to the scene, but a spokesman said "We don't have much hope". |

Would both companies be building from the same design and specs or do they each produce their own? Wondering how similar the pumps would be from two different places.
When the pumps are replaced the cores are sent back so not surew how easy it would be to see them both unless you do it yourself or are real close with the dealership and they let you take a peek.

So stright to the point then the reason for the two different part numbers is because they were made by two different vendors ? |
