PEST CONTROL SPECIALIST
Pest Control/Spray Specialist, #07-051
Facilities Services

Salary Range: $2851 - $4275/Monthly
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.; non-exempt classification.

Essential Functions: Under the general supervision of the Grounds Manager, the incumbent identifies and eradicates noxious pests, insects, plant diseases and weed conditions in campus buildings and grounds; assists in the planning of horticultural spray and pest eradication programs; and applies horticultural sprays and other dangerous chemical agents. Duties include but are not limited to: applies chemicals to plants, trees, shrubs, and lawns for eradication of fungi and pests, embankments, roads, parking lots, and unimproved acreage for the control of insects, pest, and weeds; selects and mixes pesticides according to specific formulae to accomplish desired results; selects appropriate times to apply materials; and taking into consideration weather conditions and frequency of usage; determines where to place poisons and traps; estimates job costs and quantities of materials needed; operates and performs minor maintenance back tank spray units, power boom sprayer tractors and other spraying equipment; and for ordering and storing safely chemicals and supplies used. On occasions, incumbent may provide lead direction to Groundworkers, or other individuals in other grounds classifications; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Two years of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas or general grounds, with one year in specialized pest control and/or spray work OR two years of experience in assisting a Pest Control and Spray Specialist in pest and spray control work. Thorough knowledge of the characteristics of the particular plant disease or weed condition to be treated; living habits of the particular noxious animal or insect to be exterminated; characteristics and resultant effects of poison and sprays applied; available materials and control techniques; and county, State and Federal regulations governing the use of chemicals. General knowledge of the relationship of the environment to pest and their control and the environmental impact of certain chemicals and safety precautions when using these chemicals. Ability to recognize and properly treat horticultural and pest problems; operate and make minor repairs to spray equipment; maintain accurate records and submit reports to appropriate agencies of the State and county concerning types and quantities of chemicals used and when they are applied; and read and write at a level appropriate to the position. Incumbent must also demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. Fingerprinting will be taken and checked by the California Department of Justice and FBI.

Special Desired Qualifications: Possession of the appropriate State of California Qualified Applicator Certificate and a valid California driver license.

Closing Date: Review of applications will continue until the position is filled; however, the position may close when an adequate number of qualified applications are received. A CSULA employment application is required.

We're a non-profit too... Actually, my employer (State of CA) loses $40 mil a day... so yeah, we're definitely non-profit, yet non-susstaining too.
