If you glass them in they might not look as hideous as they do on the A pillar.

I just don't like speaker pods. I find they look very...unnatural. Also as stated above a concern if the air bags go off...unless you code them out(i think you can do that) but that would be stupid and not worth the risk for a number of reasons.
Glass and leather wrapped kind of like this into the dash not pod like would probably look the cleanest. Might want to wrap the whole dash etc. in leather but then you might as well redo the whole interior: Those should be some awesome speakers! You have an epic build man!

Focal make a OEM pod (mid box) which can be purchased out of Italy The are about $260 delivered and also made for the A pillars Might look mounting the tweeters in the window corner panel and the 3 inch in the door??? Might need to think through where the best position to mount for sound stage tbh... no point putting good speakers in the wrong spot |

be nowhere near where the bag comes out, i can take a pic of deployed on tomrorow, pops out of hood lining from top of a pillar to b pillar. more of a hood lining bag than a pillar one.

Also good to know these pods wont be in the way if they get fitted at the base of the A pillars Duck, although i'm having trouble visualising how they deployed |

so when they deploy, they pop down from under the hood lining and form a curtain between your noggin and the side window. if they popped out the bottom of the pillar they'd need to be about a metre long to get anywhere near saving you from anything. If any part of you is near the a pillar in an accident in anything other than a datsun1200, then you dun fcked up. |

Interesting I always assumed there were a pillar airbags. In that case mount away.
I still think the pods look odd. Glasses in and wrapped with leather would still be the tits imo. |

Mod 100 - Auto to Manual Conversion + (Winter Build 2018)
After much collecting of parts, we have finally started on the auto to manual conversion When I say we, I mean Vince (aka Vtl aka Yoda) I just hand him tools haha. That said, it is great to be part of it and be involved in seeing it all come together It is almost a year ago that we did the ST install (which was a massive job) Unfortunately we decided to make this years project even tougher, by not only repeating the ST install, but also doing a MT conversion and a few maintenance tasks as well. On the upside this year Vince has a hoist, which makes it 100 times more comfortable and accessible to work on then jack stands. Also we wisely opted to remove the engine from the car, which makes working on it, 200 times easier, until we have to put it back hahaha So this weekend we finally got to get stuck in. After 3 days of solid work (with some extra help from Misty and Jim - thanks- ) we have the engine out, manual transmission installed, oil pan and valve cover gaskets done, test fitted the new ST manifold and pulled the interior of the car out to install the clutch hydraulic line Is too late at night to write up a full report, so will leave a few pics below and will post more about the project later in the week As always a big thank you to Vince who without his extraordinary skilz and knowledge of the N54 platform, none of this would be possible Pics below Pic 1 - Spcgry ready for surgery Pic 2 - Half way through removing bits Pic 3 - Engine out Pic 4 - Engine back in, test fitting turbo on new mani Pic 5 - New exhaust manifold is easier to install with the engine out Pic 6 - Removing the auto transmission Pic 7 - New clutch and flywheel installed Pic 8 - Manual transmission installed Pic 9 - Ripping out the interior to install clutch hard line Pic 10 - End of day 3. Looking more like a car crash then a car right now Last edited by Socket; 09-16-2018 at 07:54 AM.. |

Was a big weekend, got a lot of stuff done for the single turbo manifold upgrade and manual conversion.
- Remove front end of the vehicle - Removed engine and transmission as one assembly - Removed single turbo manifold, test fit new manifold in the car - Removed automatic transmission - Replaced oil pan gasket, encountering some snapped bolts by a previous mechanic - Instaleld spec stage2+ flywheel and clutch - Replaced valve cover - Installed manual trasnmission - Removed seats, trims and carpets to install the clutch hard pipe from the master cylinder to the firewall (very big job) - Degreased a whole bunch of parts
