It will 1000% be on BAT within 4 weeks, listed by this guy, who is in upstate NY:
https://bringatrailer.com/member/1600veloce/

He has a nice little following around German wagons, and it will do all of the $25k figure I mentioned above when the hammer falls.

That's unfortunate that those dealers are swooping in before guys like us who want the cars can even take a look.

There are plenty of good ones posted here in the classified section that these guys typically search for their inventory...mine being one of them.

Is BaT platform a dealer flipping fest now? Every other special car I see like say a low mile 6mt e90 m sport or e91 6mt rwd seems to be sold by a dealer that bought it less than a month ago. Is BaT more likely to post a dealers car than someone who applied for their vehicle posted there?

Yes, I believe it is becoming a dealer speciality car flip fest over there. Found an E39 M5 on Autotrader for $29,5 and 2 weeks later it sold for 38k by a dealer.

Yup seen him before on BaT... Ugh. Had my dad lined up to check it out since he is only 30 minutes away.

If I was really interested in that Bluewater car, I'd take a different approach and offer the seller $1,000 more than listing. I'd tell him it's listed below market and the buyer is likely a dealer who is going to flip it to make a quick buck.

It really sucks to see these cars turning into quick flips. There's nothing wrong with finding a gap in the market and exploiting it but it's a shame to see the bargain cars getting swooped up within minutes of being posted. You have to be ready to pull the trigger sight unseen on these cars at a moments' notice.

Sellers like 1600veloce rub me the wrong way since he sits on the cars long enough to get the title in his name, give the car a detail, and send it on its way. BaT is nothing more than a flipper's paradise these days.

I was considering buying wagons to recondition and resell but got sidetracked between our new baby and the pandemic. My plan was to buy plane Jane 6MT cars, add M bumpers and wheels, address deferred maintenance, drive for several months, then list for sale. I'd probably end up breaking even but at least I'd have fun in the process and breathe some life into cars along the way.

It'll sell on BAT for $25k to someone who probably won't even use it....it'll be a weekend trophy car. Too expensive to actually haul stuff around in.

Mine is definitely a fair weather driver but I paid more than that for it and use it like a wagon. I'm not going to load a pile of manure, though.

The Bluewater MT car sold. The owner let me know. Sold to a dealer in Jersey they said. Lame.

That's disappointing that dealers are picking them up to flip. And to think that you likely could have paid asking plus a bit more...

I can only share that the right car will come, in time. I waited 16 months for my e91 6MT M Sport to come up. Just keep looking but be ready to buy on a moments notice.

Wondering if I should pick up one of these beaters and retrofit options/transmission.

Anyone have a vin decoder that works? Mdecoder was my go to but has been broken for a few weeks.... This came up a few pages ago and tailendcharlie mentioned this site. I checked 2 known automatics and they both said manual

Yeah that site is worthless for the auto/manual check. Other than mdecoder I don’t know of one.

You might be on the right track....not so sure about the right car coming along. The market’s changed in the last year or two. Look what happened today - the litle guy didn’t stand a chance when the right car really did come along.

It's worth considering. I did a transmission swap on mine and it was worth it in the end (otherwise I'd still be on the hunt 3 years later). But I made sure to pick up a car that had the exact specs I wanted sans transmission, so costs wouldn't spiral too much out of control. Still a tall order, but much easier with autos. An interior swap is one thing, but retrofitting xenons is going to be a hassle. And a transmission swap is going to be expensive enough, especially if you're not doing it yourself.

I ended up paying for 100 VIN Decoder runs. It was the only way now really. All the freebies doesn't work for the info I wanted.

Hmm, definitely something to consider. Maybe I'll start looking at autos :-)

Yeah I'd do the work myself. Looked to be basically the same as swapping my e30 apart from programming. I'm certainly keeping an eye out for nice automatics.

Any details on this swap? Part numbers? Gotchas? Mechanic that you worked with?
