yeh i have the diamond audio coaxials so they just fitted in where the previous speakers were but protrude a small bit due to their increased depth. ill take some pics. The sub is a bandpass box in the boot that fills the car fine. Iv had it in previous cars and just kept it, is easy to take in and out when i need more boots space or drop the seats. what i really want is the JL audio stealth box that they do for E9X's would like to hear it first tho, but is pricey!

My next two penneth...
Yep, poorly mounted co-axials will potentially sound worse than stock speakers. So will poorly mounted components - the mounting is not the fault of the speakers, but of the installer. Well mounted co-axials will sound a lot better than the stock speakers. I have Hertz co-ax's in the front doors, they are a significant step forward from stock with the stock amp, and a lot more so with a half-decent aftermarket amp. But I've mounted them firmly, with an MDF mounting ring, then sealed them well and fitted plenty of sound deadening. There's plenty of co-axials about that are decent in the sub <£100 bracket which are better value IMHO (noting with components you'd have to factor in the cost of the extra trim too). If you're spending much above £100 for the front door speakers, I would go for components. Only a rule of thumb, but that's my take on things. I'd also personally always go for a 3/4 channel amp driving the under-seat subs and the front door speakers. A 2 channel amp will drive the sub and front door speakers much better than stock, but doesn't allow you to set up the cross-over between the subs and the front doors. I had a bit of a play, got a x-over at somewhere near 150Hz IIRC, and a bit higher gain to the stock subs than to the doors - net effect, it sounds spot-on with the Bass on the headunit somewhere around neutral. |

Hi Matt, Was interested to know where you put the Alpine amp as when I lift the false floor on mine there is a box on both sides (I have bluetooth and DAB) so nowhere obvious to put the Alpine Amp. Does anybody know if this Alpine amp can be mounted vertically by attaching it to the back of the rear seat? |

Alpine Upgrade with DAB ?
Hi folks - Just joined the forum so sorry if this has already been asked.....
I was just told by a dealer that it's not possible to fit the Alpine Upgrdae to cars that have the DAB Radio (654) option. Is this Bull or not? I'm wondering if the issue is the mounting of the Amp in which case any half decent independant Audio specialist should be able to do the job instead of my BMW dealership. New 320d M-sport arrives in March 2010 Business edition with Pro Nav DAB but standard speakers!... Cheers. |

Welcome to E90post.com
If you look in the boot there is a space for the Alpine amp and IIRC that is where the DAB is. The dashboard unit is just a control and all the electrickery is in the boot. Ask your local ICE place, I used my local place and they did it in half the time BMW state and they hadn't done one before. |

I've installed Rockford Fossgate shizz:
Amp: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...n_US&p_status= Sub: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...n_US&p_status= The sound from the sub is Quality. I suppose it does BANG a lot more than it did before with the bass. I'm used to really hearing it in my ears though having sat in the back of Clio's with similar systems. Having an E90 it's harder to achieve this effect. One question is that the speakers at the front, is it possible to change them and how much would it cost? They seem to be holding my higher quality sub and amp back...or am I expecting too much?? |

Hi everyone
Thanks for all of the useful info on this thread. Im the proud owner of shiny new e92 but cheaped out on the audio which is the only disappointment I have with the car. Does anyone know the best place to buy the Alpine kit Im in London and work in Herts. Im being quoted between 300-350 for the parts including corner mouldings at Highgate and Stevenage. I plan on getting it fitted by an audio professional who will charge about £150. Thanks |

I believe the pricing is about right - £320 is a good ballpark figure. £150 for the install isn't too bad either as long as the bloke doing it is really good, and by that I mean that he takes care of the trim clips and puts everything back exactly how it should be with no rattles or bits missing!

What system have you got??
Standard - wires direct from head unit. Hi-Fi and Logic7 they come from the amp in the rear. Not had a phone kit fitted or anything?? How old is the car?? If it is under warranty I would get it in, nothing really to come loose, sounds more like a bad joint somewhere on the pcb in the nav or one of the output channels gone. Is the sub under the seat still working?? Fade to front and right to test if you get anything at all. |

Booked in
Finally saved up the money for the Alpine upgrade(well I raided the savings!).It's going to the dealer a week on Thursday.I'm also having the Ipod interface too.Alpine is costing £600 and Ipod interface is £300 for anybody who wants to know-bargain,I'll have two !!.I was quoted over £730 at my local dealer just for the Alpine upgrade so it's worth ringing around and travelling further a field if necessary.
I just hope they live up to my expectations.I hope it will be louder too. Once installed I will let everyone know my oppinion.I have the standard professional radio in my car but I'm told the tracks are displayed on the radio in the same way an mp3 disc is. Thanks to all for the advice on here.I'll keep you posted. |

Amp will be in the boot if you have one yeah.
Did you take the phone kit out properly?? You didn't just cut the wires did you?? Sometimes people splice into the front right speaker and it you cut the wires and they shorted you could have fried your front right amp channel. |

No, that is just video.
The audio cable is in the back of the head unit/nav unit. You need to see what is going on with that phone install really. |
