If you read the whole thread, you'll notice that there are a few others that have had this issue. I had the same problem last Wednseday but I've had the 2008 DVD copy up and running since the day it was available online. After I saw the message, I put did exactly what you did and it works just fine.

I am just wondering if the disc image somehow got corrupted during the process of making it into an image as a lot of the people here are having reading-disc error or taking unusual longer time to access the disc. I don't have any issue to download the image and put it on a DVD-R disc (which really doesn't matter as I was using 1 DVD+R to copy my 2007.2 disc and it has been working fine). After I put the disc into the drive and wait for the 5 minutes reboot, it did take more than 3 minutes to calculate a new location and this would only take me about a few seconds before.
From my previous experience, the DVD drive is definitely not the source of the problem. Also, it really doesn't matter to use 1X, 16X or even higher speed to duplicate the disc as long as you are not copying play-station games. The only possibility I can think of at present is what we got here is an imperfect disc image. I guess the only way we can verify this is to wait for an image from another independent source. |

the .iso I got from this thread (4GB) works just fine and was recognized instantly. I used it for 3 hours in one day and had no issues. I do keep my original 2007.2 DVD in the glove compartment just in case
used imgburn on verbatim DVD-R at 2x

Navigation problem this morning
This morning after I pull out from my garage I got warning ding, then icon come out with SOS and telephone crossing out and then warning triangle stay on permanently. Navy screen stay freeze on main windows, no date and time on Navy screen (but on windows between speedometer and taximeter – time and date was correct), no radio, no BT.
OMG! 10 days before Bimmerfest and I get my car computer crash!!!! Drop my daughter in school turn around and drive home. Swap 2008.1 DVD with my original 2007.1. Shut down engine, wait for few min and start again – nothing – same freeze screen. Well, at list car has 2 more yrs of warranty – I decided go straight to my dealership. ½ miles before I get there computer reboot and everything start working again – Navigation, radio, date-time, BT. I turn around again and get to work. So far – no problem.

Hey guys, I think there's something to that DVD+R vs DVD-R thing.
I first burned the 2008.1 image to a DVD+R and experienced massive slowdowns. I could even hear the drive try to read several times, do a recalibration/reset/whatever, and then try to read again. Eventually the data was read, but it was sloooooow. Some functions, like voice entry for new destinations, would actually not work on occasion. When I was saying a city name (for example), it might time out waiting to read from the disc and eventually report "this function is not currently available." I reburned the disc at the slowest possible speed but it made no difference. I then tried DVD-R media, and all the problems have vanished! Now it performs just as well as my older disc. FWIW, I was using high quality DVD+R and DVD-R media. I also am burning with a high quality, genuine Plextor drive (no, not the newer rebranded junk Plextors). Summary: If you are having slowdown issues, reburn onto a DVD-R! |

I originally burned using DVD-R (Memorex) at 4x low speed, it worked when I inserted the DVD at first shot (after a quick 5 min update) but I kept hearing the Disc reading noise which I hardly heard with the original disc. After a week of using it, one day when I got into my car, I-drive did not read the disc. It worked after reloading the disc.
So I then burned it using DVD+R at 4X speed and it has worked flawlessly for 2 weeks ongoing!! I Have not heard the disc accessing noise, I heard with DVD-R My car is a post march built with Gen 3 I-Drive. Hope this info helps!

I experienced very slow times as well, but I left the computer on at night and set utorrent to shut down the computer when it was done. Woke up and everything was done.
Burned the DVD and was set! By the way, almost always I turn on utorrent just to seed |
