Hi,
Had my E90 320D M Sport for a few weeks now. It a 2006 with 40k on the clock, bought from non-bm garage. I thought paintwork was perfect but being a total newbie - turned out that it had loads of scratches (well hidden!!!) so getting it resprayed by my friend this Friday! Other than that I love the car... Previously had E46 320D - the E90 is soooo much nicer! Loving the forum.

Hi mate, is it really necessary to have your car resprayed? How were the scratches hidden? Or did you inspect it at night? how the hell did you not notice them?
How much are you paying for the respray, which can open up a can of worms if your friend does not do it 100% causing more problems for you. bUT congrats on the purchase, hope she brings you many happy miles.

If your finger nail catches the scratches then yes a respray but surley you would have seen these. If they are swirl marks and buffer trails then these can be professionally polished out. Even some nasty ones can be wet sanded/ polished out.

Thanks for the replies...
I honestly dont know how they managed to fool me!! I think I was amazed by car and price and so subconsiously ignored them!!! Damn!!! I did view the car in daylight but it was under a low roof garage! I will definately learn from my mistakes! The parts being sprayed are all deep (finger nail catches them). Basically the rear bumper, rear o/s pillar/panel, front n/s pillar, front n/s bumper. My friend works for a body shop, i've seen his work and it is to a high standard (in my opinion) The remaining 'minor scratches' will be professionally polished out by him. He is charging me £400 and will have the car Friday until Monday. As the paintwork will be looking nice again... I will post in the detailing section but I am now looking to purchase good cleaning gear. I was looking at the Meguiars NXT Gen gear. Anyone use this? Anything else?

Oh so he is only spraying the affected areas. I thought you said he is spraying the whole car?
How will he do it?

Yeah, I should have made that clearer - sorry.
He did explain exactly how he was going to do it but to be honest - it kind of went over my head a little! He just assured me that you would not see the work he's doing. He did say the hardest part would be the front n/s bumper as to save time/money he is not doing the full front bumper. He is going to double back tape (i think thats what he said) the groove to ensure the groove remains and he doesn't end up with a line! I have stressed that i'm getting it done because I cannot live with the scratches - that means I will not live with blatent patches or cut-in lines of paint. I have full faith in him (like I say - i've seen his work). Still a little nervous though ha! but once its done, i'll get some pictures up.

Anything else?[/QUOTE] There are loads of polishes/waxes/sealents out there. http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/ Give excellent guides and advice on products. Look also on detailingworld, you will find everything on there. Will he be using a paint thickness gauge on the rest of the polishing work? Many people say they can machine polish but there is alot of skill involved and could make the finish even worse. I am not saying he hasnt got the skills as not seen his work. By the way am not connected to any of the above sites. Just a member who has a passion for a flawless finish. Last edited by Exotica; 12-08-2008 at 03:40 PM.. |

Hi all
Had my E92 M3 for just over 2 weeks and loving it. Had an E46 M3 before that and you can's really compare the two!! looking through the threads you all seem like a great bunch of people who are obviously into their modding so hopefully I'll fit right in!! There's a poll running here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=191916 regarding the new wheels I'm getting. Be sure to add your vote, as I want a UK perspective too!! Cheers Nev |

Hi everyone; 2 week owner of my black e92 325 ; loving every second of it, and the fact that my local petrol station is now selling at 85.9p/l only makes me happier!
Got the car from car select; 50k, 56 plate, 18inch alloys, black leather, bluetooth, sports seats, black headlining, sports suspension, sports seats, heated seats. phew! Got 2k more for my Volvo than i was expecting. so real cost to change 12 200. Interested to hear what everyone thinks. my 1st petrol car in 10 years! |
