I know you've said before that one "could" add the XEDE as a standalone mod and make significant gains (although you haven't tested this yet w/o the cat-back exhaust)...has this changed? Are you now thinking of offering only the Xede/exhaust package or are you still going to make the XEDE a standalone option (maybe with different maps based on the OEM 335i exhaust)? Also, if you're going to offer the Xede alone, what kind of timeframe are you looking at now for this product? Thanks.
We have tested the Xede with the factory exhaust. It made 310whp and 310lb-ft of torque. Compared to 375lb-ft and 332whp with the upgraded exhaust. The difference in low end and midrange torque is staggering. We will eventually offer an Xede-only solution. But not until we get a bunch of Xede/Exhaust'd cars on the road. This is the same exact approach we took with the Suby and Evo.

That's fine...I understand. My 335i Coupe doesn't come in unitl late Nov. anyhow. Please keep us informed on when you'll be offering the Xede as a standalone product.

Shiv,
I havent recieve my car yet (mid nov) but I am slightly worried (whats new?) about it having this possible lower HP update. If it does is there anything that can be done without you actually seeing the car in person? Like me sending you a dyno map etc. I really am excited about the Xede/Exhaust (coming from old school muscle a sports car isnt a sports car without a nice exhaust note) but if it does have the update will I have to wait for you to see it inperson before you can release a map that will work with it? Or will the current map override it ok? Maybe we will just have to convince you to come out and do a dyno day and custom tune it anyways . Ill buy the beer for ya! Thanks!

About the software update (this is just me thinking aloud mind you), I would imagine they just lowered the PSI. This can easily be corrected by Shiv, and may not even require a change to his software. You just plug in his software and get the same numbers everone else is, just coming from 260whp to 332whp rather than 290whp (or whatever shiv's and other early 335's dynoed at) to 332whp. There really doesnt need to be this much worrying.
Dont know if that made any sense to anyone else, im not actually sure if that makes any sense at all, but thats whats going on in my head. Shiv please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi,
There are a couple of ways that BMW could have detuned the car (assuming that is what they did). And both that can be addressed by the Xede without any problem. The being that they are all capable of making the same power when tune.

332 rwhp.
370 rwtq.

With just exede and cat back, minus the extra cat.?

If you figure 20% loss,, maybe high but that is 398 bhp and 444 tq. Wow 444 is such a nice looking figure isnt it? lol

If BMW hasnt noticed what is going on here yet,, Im sure they will.

The new M3 wont have that kind of torque , but will have more hp ,, for now anyways, lol.

All this for what and extra $2,500? Bargin deal of the year.

And congrats shiv,,,, 99 posts and your almost good to go.

But I have another question.

When mounting the exede, will you need to have a bracket or any extra drilled holes. This is the only other way a BMW tech could find out if you have modded the ecu. Even with the exede out of the car, will there be tell tail signs of anything being messed with next to the ecu?

I only say this because soon the cat will be out of the bag and everyone will know where to look.

Man I need to go test drive one of these soon,,, just hate to part with me evo. And that might just happen. Think Ill wait till the ix comes out.

does adding a CAT back void certain part of the warranty? having the Xced easily removal and hide is my kind of MOD.. but having a detectable mod.. like full cat exhaust.. is something to think twice....

I know that you could potential add lot of HP and tq with a free flow exhaust.. but void the warranty worries me...

Aroudn $2500 for the XEDE and Exhaust is what shiv said a couple of pages ago.

And for those of you who think that is high, get real, read the previous posts.

Our in-house dyno tuning rate is, as always, $250/hr. Each custom map should take no longer than 1 hour. So if you only need a 91oct map, expect 1 hour of tuning. If you need a 91 oct map and a 100oct map, expect up to 2 hours of tuning. Of course, valet maps or fuel economy maps don't require dyno tuning.
Just under 3k is the price he *thinks* it will sell for.

Adding a cat back exhaust will not void your warranty unless they can prove that the modification caused the particular issue you are trying to have repaired and even then it will only void the warranty for that particular issue not the whole car. I.E. if your transmission falls out they cannot void the warranty on that just because you have a cat back exhaust installed.

That said, the new exhaust does remove the secondary cats which is illegal for "on road" use but unless you run into the emissions police I doubt you will have any issues. Shiv did post a smog test and the car passed with flying colors without the secondary cats so the only issue you may have is if the state you live in does physical inspections when you are having a smog test and they notice the missing cats.

No problem Shiv!! Of course in about 10 more messages someone will ask the same thing again.

I'm lookin forward to your upgrades. I take delivery of my 335 sedan next month and hope to get the xcede with exhaust in the early part of 07. I'm hoping you'll have had time to build up a sedan exhaust package by then.

Shiv,

Good looking stuff.

Have you considered that if you only offer a bundle package with the exhaust and xede together that a dealer will resonably be able to conclude that a 335 owner running your exhaust is also running your mod even if the owner removes the xede prior to taking it in for service?

I definitely see the need for it. Your numbers speak for themselves, but selling the xede only with the exhaust included seems like a red flag to dealers saying "hey, this guy is running a piggyback chip!"
