My guess is you're gonna get the car back with a lot more miles on it than when you drove in. But if they fix it, so be it. No, not all 335's have a long crank problem. My car has been problem-free for what, 3-4 wks. now? It's the 5 mos. of returning to the dealership and being told nothing is wrong that I have an issue with. Seriously, the fact that they are keeping your car should mean they're taking your issue seriously. I had a loaner nearly 2 weeks.

they couldn't find any problem again. they know this is 5 times to visit dealer but they overnight my car, they can't find anythings.

BUT ru serious??? so today , i spoke with machnic, i told him that i have record of long cranking sounds. he heard, then he sai yea this is not normal, but when we overnight your car, i cound't hear anythings. car starts normal.

so i told him that what should i do? they sai, if they find any code or if your car shows malfunction or something then they can call bmwna then they can fix it.

Even i record the sounds, it's not help...................

S*** that's disappointing. I know the feeling. I think what has to be done and I've given this advice before--when it acts up and especially if the SES is lit, just drive to the dealership without an appt. You have it documented that you've been there multiple times for this issue, they can at least extend the courtesy to you of looking at your car when it acts up....

i m going to overnight tonight , then i will check tomrrow moring ,if it start long cranking then im gonnna throw bomb in bmwna..hahha j/k...

I just bought an 07 with rather high miles: 63K, and this was a pretty big concern pre-purchase. I've seen it mentioned several times. The fact they extended coverage to 120K eased my worries, but, I was thinking, and perhaps I'm over-simplifying, and haven't done a ton of research, but, could an aftermarket turbo timer help with the issue?

I'm so paranoid if I run in a store real quick ( < 1O mins) I leave the car running and take the key FOB with me.

The problem does not seem to be a function of mileage--my car was fine for 3+ years, then all of a sudden it would stall unexpectedly, and progressed to the point where I couldn't get to the Post Office. My mileage is still only about 19k. To resolve the issue, knock on wood, took 5+ months going back and forth with the dealership, most of the time saying there's nothing wrong. If that were out-of-warranty it would sum up to about $3,000 worth of T&M. If it were CPO it would still be $50 per visit or over $300. A guy at the gym (I keep mentioning him as he's the only person I spoke with in person) had the turbos, injectors, coils HPFP, and software done around the 27.2 laggy update and argued for months about the turbo lag. That's $10k worth of repairs under warranty.

What we have is a few people saying their dealerships are great and take care of them, and many who say dealership will not fix things without fault codes (i.e. my car can't start and stalls unexpectedly is not good enough for them). Do you want to deal with all these out-of-warranty and simply take out your AMEX?

My hunch is something is recorded but in the BMW world, not enough to warrant doing anything (such as a SES lamp solidly lit). Again, I have no idea why you or I or anyone has to go through all this--something is wrong with the car, why doesn't the dealership fix it? They keep the car overnight and simply give it back to you, as they did me. I went through 5 mos. of that BS.

Good luck--if you reach a point where you feel uncomfortable about driving your car, start yelling at the SA's. Remember, they are paper pushers...

I think it is covered. Dealer trying to sell me 535i said she run the VIN through computer and it's covered to 10 years, and she said she has document to prove it.

Just wanted to chime in and say that a friend here with an 07 with I think he said 40K miles or so....had his go a week ago. He's had hell with the dealer here. They've had his car for almost a week. He kept telling them it was the HPFP but they wouldn't listen. Anyway, they finally came back and said that's what it was. He's out of warranty but got in touch with BMW and they agreed to pay for the part and half the labor....at least they are helping out mostly here...

Pentagon BMW car sales in Germany said that there have been three other cases recently....so the question about whether or not it's happening in Europe is answered for sure now..

I just pray it doesn't happen to me anytime soon. I just installed Injen DCI and JB3. Obviously I can take the JB3 out if I do have a problem. Does anyone know if the dealer will give me Sh$t for have the intakes? I'm thinking about just buying the 943 and keeping it on ice...

Well, wish me luck... I'm driving from Prescott, Arizona to Salt Lake City and back in my 335 next week. 11 hours each way. Just made sure my AAA was up to date and I probably ought to get the phone numbers and addresses of every BMW dealer along the way!

Good deal. As you can see, the tech followed the diagnostic tree--that is sensible. Hopefully you'll be good for now. If not, well, that's what warranty is for. What is maddening in the process is the reluctance of the SA to get you to the point where they will use the diagnostic tree.

Again, my car has been good for about a month. I drove in bumper to bumper traffic today in 95F temps, no issues. Sure, something will probably fail again in the future. That, I can accept, and is why I'm getting the 7/100 Gold. I just get angry when the dealership keeps the car all day and doesn't do anything with it. When they do fix it, I can live with it....
