I've mentioned this a few times elsewhere but me and HPB teamed up a while ago to find a kit that worked on 2006 and 2007. We tried about 6 kits and found one that worked on the majority of those years. However, over the years I have heard of a few that slipped through the cracks. Just being brutally honest I dont want people being mislead. There is no 100% guaranteed method unless you code. Are you sure it will work on the 2006 & 2007 model? I have tried so many method including relay, capacitor, coding. I could only remove the code myself by coding but just don't get it to work on my car. I have a 2006 325i with sport package. Here is all the method that I have tried:
.HID kit: Lights shut off after 10 minutes of flickering & error on dashboard.
.HID kit+error cancelers: Lights shut off after 5 minutes & error on dashboard.
.HID kit+capacitors:Lights shut off after 5 minutes & error on dashboard & lights flickering.
.HID kit+error cancelers+capacitors:Light shut off after 5 minutes & error on dashboard.
.HID kit + relay: Lights not even turn on, the relay made weird sound

I have tried more then 10 times from all the method. I willing to pay for the CANBUS kit if it 100% working on my car. Otherwise I would give up. It waste a lot of time, money and effort for this project(attempt more than 10 times and spent like more than 200$). Usually I only tried 1 time from any project that I do.(Halogen to Xenon conversion which require coding and mod part, Installing Lux 5.1 Angel Eye, and Angel Eye as Daylight Running...)
In conclusion, if you want to get HID Foglights and have the same car model as me, just buy a newer car

All those HID kits werent canbus right? I mean even the 08+ guys need canbus to work for a plug and play kit.

Though 08+ guys can get away with capacitors and error cancelers sometimes but in my opinion thats ghetto and not the correct way of doing it.

I can only tell you what I've already said. We had to go through extensive testing of 6 canbus kits before we found one to work on 2006 and 2007 cars. Even then it was maybe a 90% success rate after about 2 years.

With your track record you would need to roll the dice.

This canbus thing isnt going anywhere, its already present on a lot of vehicles including chrysler, dodge, jeep, lexus, audi and even starting to come around in acura/honda. Pretty much every car brand today has some sort of canbus lighting in it.

So does anyone know the PWM value for the fog lights? Ive searched and searched and cant find anything specific about what to change and what to change it to, any help would be awesome.

I tried to email them a few months ago with no response. I know they are selling a lots of good stuff like oem ballast( I have bought 2 of these for my car)

guys, what error are you guys getting? "bulb out" error or "low beam or fog light malfunction?"

a couple of weeks ago, i spliced (2) 10,000uF capacitors (using electrical tape, not solder) to my HIDs on the power side, not the bulb side. the error went away for a little but now all of a sudden its very intermittent again. it'll come and go a couple times in one drive, stop for a couple days, then come back. i also dont think my ballasts are canbus, as they dont say on the sticker on the ballast. they were on the car when i purchased so i dont know where the PO got them.

in fact, this is what my ballasts look like, i found this picture on ebay, so im assuming the PO purchased them on ebay.



any thoughts? should i try the slim ballast from DDM like the OP did? anyone know if those are canbus?

Finally,I could make it work. Anyone having trouble with their HID should try this. The way of my setup was using 2 error cancellers per foglight plus coding the car. Mine is 2006 325i. Just pm me if you have any question and I'm glad to help.

can anyone confirm this? its interesting when you say you get errors when its cold weather. im using (2) 10,000uF (2007 e92) and i get the errors randomly.. but when i think about it, its usually when its cold out.

for example, it was chilly this morning and i was getting the errors on and off to work. but for lunch its warmed up and i had no errors.

does this mean i need MORE capacitance ie. 10k + 4700uF per fog?

I just did this on my $36 ebay slim hid kit, I use 1500uf 35V capacitor and works like a charm, very satisfied

There is no reason to use big capacitor because it will take longer to charge and it won't complete the wave cycle from PWM single.


It is how I connect, eject pins from connector goes to origin fog plug from harness. If I want to resell this kid I can simply just remove the cable and it will look like original kit

I still run them without issue, drive all night, they never throw code or shut off

I have installed many HID kits on my trucks and bikes, I am not 100% sure of how to wire in the capacitor from your picture, could you help as I need to do this asap to my 07 335i. Soldering is also no problem I just want to make sure of how to wire it.

I have an 01/07 E90 which I recently had coded to shut off all exterior bulb check because I wanted HID's for the low beams. Since I had an extra set of DDM HID ballasts I went ahead and installed them for fogs with the H11 bulb kit. It worked great until I started the car and experienced flickering (just in the Fogs.) I found this thread and used the capacitors as 335iredline described and works GREAT! Just put it in today drove with them on all afternoon and NO FLICKER NO BULB OUT WARNING. This is a great cheap mod if you don't want to spend a ton of money just to have HID Fogs.

Also, I have the CANBUS HID Kit from HPB as well and everything's working awesome! Thanks 335iredline! Thanks HPB!

Once I got the car coded to turn off bulb check the fogs stay on with no issues! I belive it was a combination between capacitor and coding.

I have a question regarding a HID xenon kit. I'm from Germany and here, unfortunately, no one talks about it. The law doesn´t allow it.
I have ordered a slim-line kit from the internet with 6000K. The kit included a "Warning Canceller". At Installing I prefixed it to the ballast. Unfortunately, I get an error message on the dash.
Here I read that many of you have pre-installed a 4700mF capacitor (35V). The same I ordered now.
Now my question to you:
If I pre-install this cap, do I have to use this "Warning Canceller" additionally?

If you get an error with the warning canceler you are going to get an error without it too.

Best bet is just to get a proven kit that works.

I know sometimes people can get lucky and get an inexpensive kit and throw an error canceler and get lucky but not all HID kits are created equal. The internal components, chips and resistors all need to mesh well for an error free kit.

High Performance Bulbs and I personally tested out a handful of HID kits on my car before we found an error free solution without the need for error cancelers. A true high quality HID canbus kit will not need error correctors.

The BMW is very picky when it comes to lighting and errors.
