Damn 500 a month on insurance is pretty steep. did you try switching to Geico? 15 minutes can save you 15% or more.

Here's a good starting suggestion. I only started getting into detailing myself when I got the 3er. If you goto Costco, they have this like huge pack of 20 microfiber towels in their little auto section and another pack of like microfiber hand mitts with 2 bigger towels. Get those. The both of them together was like 30 bucks. Then head to your local Pep Boys and pick up some decent car wash soap. I use Eagle1 Nanowash and Wax. For wheels I have Meguairs Wheel Cleaner and I use a hard bristle brush first then a softer one to finish. Then I use the Turtle Wax compound to finish up and Black Magic Tire Wet on the tires. It's a cheaper and quicker solution than going for say Zaino, but then again, I have to do this about once a month. Takes about 3 hours for me to do it. For interior I just use a wet microfiber towel and Meguairs wipes (the non-shiny ones).

This is my current process. I'll change it once I switch to the acrylic products and a clay bar.

Cool, thanks. I did get that huge pack of MF towels lol. I can use those to dry the car too right? All i need now is a good hand mitt, wax, wheel cleaner, and some kind of cleaner for exhaust tips.

Yea the MF towels I use for everything. You can get a good wool mitt at Pep Boys or Autozone, whatever is around you. I got the microfiber mitts from Costco too. Funny enough, I use the all wheel cleaner for the exhaust tips along with another soft bristle brush, the same type I use on the rims and it works pretty well.
