Could be any number of things, but not something to ignore.
While not completely related, my dad's car had a cylinder 2 misfire which turns out to be a bad valve and required the whole head to be replaced just a few weeks ago.

how much did that cost him? Dam, don't want to bring my car into service since my ride is modded. I'm hoping its only the Ignition coil...Sigh...

Who knows what it could be. Change out the plugs and swap coilpacks with another cylinder first.

hmm, maybe you're right..The SES light is the only thing that came on and nothing else...The mechanic cleared the code, but that obviously did not solve the problem.

Try not to just ignore codes, there's something that sets it off and ignoring it might make things worse. Many explanations of "oh it's just bad gasoline" etc. are rarely, if ever, correct.
I would start by simply switching the coilpack with another cylinder and see if that one misfires.
