new AE's for 2011 3 series are LED's
the trade off is when you unlock or lock your car, they don't fade in or out anymore, they just turn on or off...

Do we know of anyone who has fitted the 2011 AE LEDs to a 2009+ car?

I too have a 2001 October build 335i E90. Im confused about what I need however. The DRL/AE's are very white and I like them. However, when I turn on the headlights, they go away and turn yellow. I'm assuming this is the halogens kicking in? I definitely want to keep them white all the time - just like the new 2011 E92's look.
Can anyone tell me exactly what my options are? UPDATE : The DRL's only look decent by themselves because there is more voltage being applied to them during the day. When the Xenons are on, these rings are dimmed and look more yellow. Still looking at options. Last edited by sswalters; 12-28-2010 at 01:05 PM.. |

Just installed the Mtec V3.0 yesterday. I love the way they look. They are very bright and the white color matches the HIDs very well. Now I just need to decide if I should get matching bulbs for the fogs, or go with yellow(3000K)?

GP Thunder vs WeissLight vs City Vision vs Angel iBright vs Lux H8
Hey I just wanted to post a quick review of 5 different Angel Eye systems I've had on my car to help with people deciding between different ones.
GP Thunder: - These are dim as anything and they don't look right at night WeissLight: - These have an innovative design but again they are dim, and really don't look very good at all. City Vision 6 watt: - These are more or less the same as WeissLight, and they would be considering they use very similar LEDs in different positions. Angel iBright 3.0 - These use an inovative design and hands down the most powerful single LED on the market. A single SSC P7 chip. These are the most even and extremely bright. The SSC P7 chip is used in LED headlights, 1 chip per headlight so it's bright, but the main selling point is that they are even. MSD H8 Lux - These are my favorite LED angel eyes because they are the brightest and have the best color. They use 4 LED chips per bulb which are extremely high output chips as well. The chips that MSD uses overall put out more output than the Angel iBright ones. If anyone is considering buying ANY led bulb replacement besides the H8 or Angel iBright, you're crazy. Especially if you're thinking of buying anything off ebay. All the other solutions are much too dim and use cut rate hardware. Currently I was pretty satisfied with both the Lux H8 kit and the Angel iBright kit. I only switched to the Lux kit because I received a faulty kit from a member and ended up returning it. No current LED bulb solution is going to be as bright as the OEM 2011 setup particularly in the outer rings, BUT the OEM solution actually has weird coloration to it so it doesn't look as good as it could in person. I've decided to move onto an even brighter kit. I foresee the likes of the new LS3 kit and OSS kit being as bright as necessary but I don't like how you can still see each LED. I feel like they may not look as even in person as I want. We'll see what happens. Hope that's been informative.

I'm replacing the emitters on my Weisslicht kit with XP-Gs. The heatsink design and drivers only support ~250mA current draw so they'll only operate at half-brightness but they should still be a huge improvement. I prefer the method Weisslicht uses by placing the emitters directly up to the light pipe openings on each side.
It would be best if I could apply the XP-Gs to a LUX H8 set and drive them at 100%. |

Take some videos and post them up if you do end up going with this solution. Lighting is difficult when you have so many complicated surfaces so hopefully it looks even, but the theory is good..

Wow... you guys are incredible!
I would go for LUX H8 or Angel iBright. I suppose LUX is brighter than AiB but I don't know the evenness. LUX lights up inner and outer rings evenly? Quote:

The AiB systems lead the pack with a 3 year warranty.
