E36 coilovers installed. Rears are a PITA in that car. Did the first front in an hour, 2nd front in 15 mins, and 3 hours easy for the rears.

Yeah, it didn't help that there was extra Friday traffic, too. D'oh!

Yikes! At least they're on now.

What makes the rears so tough on that car?

You have to tear the entire trunk apart to access the RSMs. Like tear it APART. Then on the bottom spring perch where you adjust the height, you have to take the spring out and unbolt the adjuster from the car to adjust it, and put it back in. You can't adjust it on the car. Whack.

Rob, no pics yet. Haven't got everything adjusted yet. Will put some up when I get it sorted.

Haha, it's the same procedure on my E46! I learned a lot of tips and tricks to make it go fast after the first 2 installs.
Adjustment is a pain, too. The KW V2 design forces you to remove and compress the entire shock if you want to adjust damping. The spring needs to come out, too, to adjust the height because the adjustable perch sits on top. GCs are much better thought out because the damping control is a little knob on the top of the shock, just like the fronts, so you just need to tear the trunk apart (or make little cutout flaps in the trunk liner). The perch bolts to the bottom, but doesn't even have to come out for adjustment.

Yeah I think the E36 and E46s are essentially setup the same. It would have gone quite a bit faster if I had another hand to help. Oh well, at least it's done. However, the driver's rear is way higher than the right rear for some reason, and the perches are set the same. And it's not like a tiny bit, it's about a 1/2" difference.

Yeah, having a second set of hands is key for holding things in place while you wrench.

The 1/2" difference is common in E46s as well. Some people seem to think it's because there's a small weight difference that's accounted for by the driver. My own theory is that it's caused by the way the chassis twists under torque from the engine and u-turns don't help either. Anyway, I haven't heard anything very convincing.

There should be a slight difference but 1/2" seems to me like too big of a difference. My E90 stock also sat higher on the driver's side, as do many cars, but the driver's side rear sitting so much higher is strange. I'll probably adjust it down just a tad so it's maybe 1/4" higher than the passenger side rear.

Yeah, I dunno what else to tell you. It was the same on both stock suspension and on the coils. Btw, I did the same adjustment with the height - 1/4" closer to level.

Sits high? Mine is sort of shifted to the right by one gate. R is where 1 was, 1 and 2 are where 3 and 4 was, etc. And going to 5 and 6, the boot kinda rubs on itself on the right side.

That sounds weird, haha. I haven't done it on an E90, so I'll ask the obvious question - is everything installed facing the right direction? Is there some mounting point that can be adjusted at all?

As far as lining things up, I think I did it right, but according to the DIY, there is a "ghetto" angle when reconnecting the SS lever to the gear selector, maybe that is it?

I followed that DIY. I installed it the "ghetto angle" way because the other way turned out like yours and the shift lever would hit the console trim going into R, 1, 3, 5. So just flip it and it should be good.

Argh, U mean take it off the gear selector and turn it 180 degrees?

Why did the DIY poster mention "ghetto" angle if it makes no difference? The other dude in that DIY had it the wrong way and he was the opposite of me.

I see what you mean, Danny. That's hella far forward.

Looking at the DIY now...
