I missed it. It's at the dealer for scheduled maintenance and a last go-round of picking up cosmetic warranty odds and ends before the original 4-year warranty expires.

Did it die completely on you or what symptoms were you getting? I have noticed that mine doesn't blow as much air as it used to. Not making any loud or weird noise, just that before I used to leave it on AUTO and that was good enough. Seems like lately, I need to manually crank up the fans in order to feel the car cooler.

I did notice that even at full fan speed, the driver side corner vent doesn't blow lots of air. I'm wondering if the blower is starting to go bad on me.

20% ceramic, actually is not that dark.

I safely stored my car in the garage in preparation for Hurricane Matthew. I am about 20 minutes west of Cape Canaveral, so we are expecting 140+ winds.

Flushed the transmission fluid and replaced the filter @ 52k miles.

BMW specs the trans fluid with a 'lifetime' service interval, but they also say 15k miles between oil service, too... The LSD was flushed a couple of months ago. Will probably do the same for the front diff and transfer box soon.

On deck:

MSI stud conversion and 12.5 mm front spacers
ST60 / ST40 installation

Installed the Monroe rear upper shock mounts. The Monroes are solid rubber and are made in Taiwan while the BMW mounts are soft polyurethane foam. Rear feels stiffer and more planted but the increase in NVH is more noticeable. I'm hoping it's due to my RFTs which I am replacing with Michelin AS3s soon. As it currently stands, I don't think I can recommend the Monroes on a daily, especially with RFTs.

More E91 Suspension Work

Another suspension mod to square-up the front and rear track widths, kill the factory setup designed for boring but safer understeer, and enhance agility.

Today I widened the front track 1" with Turner 12.5mm spacers to 1525 mm from 1500 mm (stock OE). Rear track is unchanged at 1529 mm. The tracks are virtually identical now (delta 4 mm), to help the rear rotate with little effort. For comparison, E90 M3s are 1540 mm and 1539 mm front and rear, respectively.

I also took the opportunity to convert the rims from lug nuts to MSI studs, 85mm in front and 75mm in the rear. The MSI studs appear to be very good quality, especially when compared next to my old Turner wheel studs. The MSI lug nuts are painted yellow and are "visually distinctive". I understand the reasoning for the yellow paint (pink is an option, too), but it's more "racer" than I prefer for a car that spends most of the time on the street. The car was aligned two weeks ago (-3 deg F / -2 deg R). At the same time I removed and replaced the E91 rear chassis tension strut (chassis stiffener) with sturdier M3 chassis rods. So, several minor suspension projects were done the past two weeks.

I drove a buddy's (instructor) track car today (2016 Audi TT very extensively modified for handling / brakes / power), and I will say that all the suspension work completed this year seems to have produced the desired results. The wagon really feels super planted and neutral - nothing like when I took delivery almost two years ago. Of course the N52 isn't as powerful as my friend's upgraded, blown I5, but we both felt it lacked nothing compared with the TT in the handling department. Not bad for a wagon. The ride is supple, damped, and precise. Makes me want to try more precise dampers from Ohlin / JRZ, etc. but the xDrive aftermarket is slim to none. StopTech ST60 / ST40 front and rear brakes and ducts go on the car later this month.

I also drove an E38 7-series (6MT Unicorn!) yesterday. What a cool reminder of the type of cars BMW used to engineer and manufacture. This car was an example of the classic BMW formula of athletic and agile 4-seat Porsche-alternative, wrapped in gentlemen's sheetmetal (pre-Efficient Dynamics management).

I'm not easily satisfied, but in this case I finally am. With a lot of planning and engineering, and some more work, I transformed this 2011 E91 into a "classic" (pre-ED) BMW. She'll never be fast by today's benchmarks, but she is quick, relatively light and agile, and hides it all under a sport wagon body.

Next up: Install BBKs and M3 underbody aero.
