I picked up a track rat Miata so this BMW is going back to stock and I'm selling all the mods. Hit me up with a pm if you are interested in this complete setup. It's the way to go with all the right components of you have an N52. I spent a lot of time engineering this install to fit perfectly. This is the setup that will allow you to avoid torque reduction at a track day

Bumping this one back up, as I've been doing a ton of research on N52 oil cooler retrofits, and I like this approach the best (and the pictures are still live!).
Many folks are simply using the heat exchanger (makes sense for colder climates and/or cars that aren't tracked), and some have mimicked the 335i setup in the passenger wheel well. The 335i puts the oil cooler in the wheel well because there's an intercooler at the bottom of the radiator. We N52 guys don't have an intercooler there, so I think it makes a lot more sense to mimic the M3 setup and put the oil cooler there: don't need to mess with any of the brake cooling ducts, relocating the TPMS box, ducting and exhaust for the cooler itself, etc. The Setrag 915 is also a great value. My plan is to use the OE thermostat, but mount a Setrag 915 in the same location as OP. Thanks, OP, if you're still around. |
