Just tell them that you're not comfortable driving around another car (for safety reasons if it's not a BMW loaner), and they need to order the part. You'll bring your car in when the part arrives....it's worth a try.
yea they are cool about that...when i did my oil temp sensor, they let me take my car till the part got in... which is what im going to do this time.

+1. I think this would be very good info to know. Just look inside your door jam for a build date.

My car was one of the first ones built, second production week for 335is i believe....

If memory serves me right, i think week 25-28 is accurate.

see post #3. According to it:

The fuel pump failures are primarily limited to build dates from 6/06 to 9/06, although a few later build date cars have rare software problems associated with the high pressure fuel pump. The bigger issue seems to be the difficulty in getting the part. Check out BMW SIB 12 55 06.

I believe that might be in "retail sales" and not quality gas...becuase Chevron is fuckin horible.

There are a lot of post of people on the forum that DYNO'd their car with shitty gas like Chevron...and then added 76 or better gas and made 10 more wheel power.

Now I'm getting worried. Mat -- I remember your car and my car were both built in Oct., '06 and on the same ship over from Germany. I've got ~ 6,600 mi. on my car now...so far, so good, but it seems like it could still fail, but hopefully not. I go in for my Progman V.25.02 Navi s/w update next Mon.

Gas is gas. Top Tier refers to companies who add more detergents (twice as much) than is required by law. Maybe Chevron's detergents suck, dunno.

Me, I use Shell V-power, which has five times the detergents that are required by law.

I only use 93 octane from either Mobil or Shell, and no problems.

With that said, anyone here with a pump failure that has a built date later than what's suggested?

That really sucks about the fuel pump. I wonder what percentage of 335i's have been affected? You could always request a 335i loaner...hook your PROcede up to it and

yea... i mean its not a huge issue...just the hassle of going to the dealer... luckily i have a BMW walking distance almost from where i work, so its not to far out of the way.

Im going to go there, have them test it out, and have them order it and then take my car and go back when it gets there.

I just have to take out the PROcede tonight, which will take a couple mins.

I was hoping our 2 cars didnt eat shit either. Since we got them basicly at the same time and both are e90's, with same exact everything except color.

Oh well now you can have them fix your shifter also. Is that still having a problem?

However sstarch you already have a replacement pump so your production date shouldn't be relevent. So either your problem isn't a bad pump, or they havent really solved the problem with the replacement parts. I am particularly interested in hearing what happens with your car. If it is a bad FP and one more goes out you can probably Lemon Law your car.

PS: I have a Sept production date and 4500 miles. So far no problems. I only use Shell V-Power.

Nothing wrong with 76 gasoline.

Also, I dunno if I'm the first to say it, but I think the exclamation point key on your keyboard is broken.

Might want to try a lower octane coffee drink in the morning.

UPDATE:

Just got a call from my CA and he wanted me to find out from my previous dealer to who i wen to have my fuel pump replaced what EXACTLY they did to my car, so i called them and apparantly they replace the High Pressure Injection HOSE. Not the pump.

I dont know if this was a negligent mistake or the right repair depending on the direction they got for Upper BMW techincians....but my SA says that the fuel pump needs to be replaced...and he has one on backorder for an existing 335i that will only get here in April....

So i will be in a loaner for a while.

FUCK.
