Sucks. Meanwhile there are 1/2 dozen or more companies still making shit for these big diesel trucks which I'm sure cause more environmental damage than any BMW

This is true. Don't be surprised if we hear Jarek reporting similar business "adjustments" soon.

BPC is a stand-up organization, despite my disappointment.

Still tampering with emissions. They'll probably offer the Stg 1 and you do your own EGR blocking.

I hate to hear this. My "track only" d is awesome. This may sound cold, but the 3rd or 4th thought I had was : hmm, might make my car a little more saleable in the future .....

I had a trip to Raleigh scheduled for only 3 weeks away. Now I have booby trapped DPF and Urea systems waiting to go off while I try to figure out what to do next.

This is a huge problem for folks that have done the prep for a tune. I wonder if Bob might understand the bind this puts on a few people and offer some relief. If I was in that position I would be blowing up the phone looking for a little love.

So - lets take the presumption this is based on some perceived risk with the work being done to our track only cars. The only way you can mod the ECU is by making it a track only car. The second you mod it, it no longer operates under the same parameters that the car emissions system was approved with. This is not an issue on diesel cars alone - it applies to all vehicles that get modified. They are focusing on one hell of a small (but awesome) market, although it is a diesel engine. But the logic and and basis for this would be flawed immensely. So, in my humble opinion, a stage 1 still violates emissions if its not track only. So I see this as a reduction in risk possibly, but is the EPA dude like, ya'll need to quit this, but alright, you can keep tuning all of these other cars and modifying their emissions systems?

Sure, removing/gutting components might be seen as a more "aggressive" violation if the car is not used as track only, but then again, they wouldn't have any data on either options compliance or how far out of compliance they run if not for track use.

I would also add I cant see this being a financial decision based on the vehicles out there. All of the cost in tuning is fixed upfront research. They already completed that. Perhaps they stop trying to tinker and further the tunes, but right now its a cash machine with little to no variable cost and its straight profit. Sure, they don't have 100,000 of cars waiting for the service, but what comes in is profit. And its not like every city has a shop that can make our cars ready for the track, there are only a few solid options, and now one less.

Lastly - if this is pressure from some bean counter at the EPA, I hope they realize their efforts do nothing to curb emissions. Trying to stop less than 10,000 cars from modifying their vehicles to legally track only wouldn't even show up as a rounding error in global or national emissions output. They should focus on the heavy industrial and freight/shipping if they want to "make a difference" Until then, they are wasting their time. Oh wait, they have lobbyist telling them what to do and not do - yay taxes! ha <rant concluded>

You will be missed BPC

The domestic diesel truck enthusiasts lost a big player a few years ago. I'm a little surprised companies still take this risk. But I'm glad some have been willing to take the risk.

Even with this crackdown, the Enthusiasts found other ways to do what they want...

It's collateral damage from the VW dieselgate. EPA bureaucrats have bees in their bonnets about that, so the stock knee-jerk reaction is to scramble about doing some stupid stuff like hassling diesel performance shops to make it look like they deserve that next annual pay increase.

This whole EPA is a scam.. im a firefighter in NYC and all of our trucks new and old shoot out black smoke, so does every city/state vehicle. There's tons of cummins/Chevy/Ford, fiat blah blah blah, emissions delete tuners in the states. If it's not in the states you can get it elsewhere. Why are state/city and federal vehicles exempt. See, a govt scam. Every building in NYC that has an oil burner puts out more soot then a 335d. When I was in the Marines not 1 truck had a dpf or smog BS. There will be more diesel Shops opening up I'm sure. Once VW fixes there ecu issue, shops around the world are just going to hack it and tune it. Bob might just need to do this as a side job maybe hook up with AA and really take over the market.

The software in the computer is part of the emissions configuration. Even stage 1 tuning with no hardware modifications is illegal everywhere EPA has jurisdiction. There are some "legal" tunes for some vehicles, I'm not aware of one for 335d.

I am well aware that you will get away with it, pass inspection etc etc

That does NOT make it legal

Is bpc offering free return to stock flash? I couldn't imagine running a car like this on software that has no support.
