I always thought this was for a gearbox reset which some claim cant be done. Something does happen though. |

My car's only done 10K miles, will it need done? reason I ask is I've often thought in normal D mode pulling away, kickdown and general driving the throtle is slow to react and v.sluggish.......I'll try it later however and report back! also 325i Auto.

Done it the other day, drove it a few times since....feels like a new car almost! throtle response is 100x better, not slow and lazy like before, car feels like its in M mode, haven't tried it in M yet but can imagine it will be better!
DO IT.

After owning my 330d auto for 2 months and finding it a bit sluggish from standstill and rolling acceleration, i did what i thought was the adaptation reset which did not really make much difference, however after coming across the sequence in this thread i tried it today and it has absolutely made a difference to the way the car responds, much smoother and free flowing and sharp acceleration. I must add though that the adaptation learns quite fast and if you do not drive how you want to drive it will adapt to a lazy setting again very quickly,
A must try if you feel your auto is a bit delayed or feels sluggish |

I know this is an old post but I have an 06 330i with 108k and my throttle response isn't lazy anymore. My car would leap forward when I would shift from 1st to 2nd manually. Problem solved. Transmission shifts smooth like its supposed to.

I've tried it and i can say it works. One question, how often do you need to do reset it? or does it stay that way? Thanks.

I imagine the problem is the car adapts to how you drive most of the time, half throttle max, minor adjustments etc, but when you want to push on, it has numbed the response to try and help with MPG.
So unless you reset it and then drive like a maniac all the time, you'll probably have to reset it in the future. I'll try this on mine and see if it does anything. |

I've got a 330i auto, and have tried this procedure before, but it only seems to make a difference for a single ride. I think it forces it to go into a sportier map or something like that, but once you switch off the car it goes back to the way it was before.
What I have noticed, that my car seems to hold on to the 1st gear a little bit longer than I would like and the shift up into second is a little rough, but it is fine and smooth once it's gone into the second and past it. I've also noticed, that the car does take off in the second gear occasionally, making it so much smoother and also faster take off. Sometimes I even force it take off in the second gear, by manually going into second before moving off and then switching back to auto as the car starts moving. Kind off wish it always started off in the second unless I was on a hill.

I've tried this procedure again last night. Works for the first ride, but is back to normal the next time you drive. This is what makes me think, that this procedure forces the box to use a certain map.

I will add that I did this last night, and I don't see the point really.
Yes the car 'felt sharper', but all it was is the fact the the throttle was more responsive, making the car feel quicker as it was putting on more throttle than before. To me it was just annoying as it made driving with light throttle much harder, and by the end of today it was pretty much back to normal with its numbed feel for the first 1/3rd of the throttle, exactly as I want it. |

This helps mine but after a few hours / days driving in traffic it goes back to being sluggish again. Normal I guess, hard driving for a while re-learns again after a while but this is quicker.

That's the problem. If you are all the time driving in traffic and trying not to burn lots of fuel it will re-adapt back to that style. This is why you need mode buttons etc.
