TDi give me a call anytime today Im looking after 8 November when the guy comes back from vacation, if you or Doc aka 335dwagon can come up w something NOT to expensive then i will wait and delay my jumps, as you can see amigos after the flex tube there are the sensors and THAT is what is restriciting POWER from our cars beside the ACTUAL DPF.

Hooper I concur w you in respects to soot building into EGR, if you guys saw how DPF works, before it accumulated particules and regenerated to EGr once DPF is modded that will not be the case since DPF will either be bypassed or new pipe installed.

Also I forgot to metion if you have the crystalization of urea it will happen at the end of the flex pipe that connects into the exhaust

Wait until you remove that and look at the DEF "Mixer" (#3 item here)...

Also, there's 6 threaded sensors scattered around that thing, plus the DEF injector. 3 of the sensors are EGT probes. Crazy...

Hi im new on here but I have been reading the thread and thought I would share my experience with my DPF.

well my car was gradually losing power over like 2 weeks after I regenerated my dpf as I only do short journeys to work etc.

I did a bit of research and thought my best option would be to delete the damn thing so that's what I did.

on Saturday I decided to get the car on the ramp and take the dpf off (very fiddly job and not much room) eventually I got it off and decided to cut it open and take the dpf out but leave the cat in and weld back up (cat and dpf combined).
while I was doing this I had a friend read my map and send it off to have the dpf software deleted which was sent back just as the car was put back together then programmed back in.

Although its not been long and I have not done many miles yet I can report the car does breath a lot better and feels a lot smoother with plenty more power and likes to spin the back wheels when you plant your foot quite effortlessly.

I know people are worried about leaving people behind in clouds of black smoke but there does not seem to be much of that at all, you may get a slight puff when you floor it but otherwise its clear.

Thanks for sharing.

Did you take any pictures of what the inside looks like? Did you remove just the DPF section and leave the DOC (Diesel Oxidative Catalyst) in place? Did you leave the portion you removed "open" or did you weld in a pipe of some kind? If no pipe was used, is there any resonances occurring at certain rpm's while driving? Could you describe, or better yet show a picture, of where and how you cut open the DPF?

Any inspections to worry about in the UK? Don't you guys avoid a tax when you buy a car with DPF?

I'm going through the same performance issues right now. Good performance one run, and then a week later, the engine feels suffocated. I don't do much open highway driving. Does anyone know a way to force the DPF regeneration before you go to the drag strip, etc? My exhaust tips are now covered in black soot. The first 2 yrs they were clean.

I thought this all started happening since my EGR recall, but that could be a coincidence, as the DME faults are for excess exhaust pressure, and the dealership test plan calls for regeneration commands to be initiated, then retesting. So yes, right after regeneration, the back pressure is okay, but then performance deteriorates from then.
I'm wondering if this is just a factor of a worn DPF? Or did the EGR recall have any effect on this.

I did some testing this last weekend, performance was okay to get in the 12's with traction, but considering I was running K1 with drag radials, and seats removed, it should have been faster. (car ran over 108mph with more weight when it was new!) But in the same configuration with the back pressure issues, my trap speed would be down to 99mph! That is like a 70hp handicap! And basically what the car would run stock without the JBD.

I haven't tried to use the BT to force a regen, but it can show you all kinds of data on what's going on with your DPF.

Wonder if the algorithm that tracks the loading on your DPF is out of sync with how much ash has actually accumulated? The more the DPF loads with ash the less room it has to hold soot ... I've been tracking the backpressure and loading of my DPF for awhile now and it had seemed like it was aging gracefully. But if you are triggering backpressure faults ... that is troublesome for the condition of your DPF.

I don't think EGR operation (valve opening ratio) would come to play here in terms of performance under WOT, as the EGR valve should be completely closed under these conditions.

If I remember your posts, you had the JBd pretty much since your car was new. From my understanding of the EGR operation relative to AFR, with the JBd active, you have less EGR. Therefore; less build up (carbon/soot build up) in the intake valves, etc. but more for the DPF to handle.

Your symptoms sound like a clogged/restrictive DPF. DPF versus no DPF is about 30hp (saw a dyno chart somewhere) so it can definitely be a restrictive component.
