The manufacturers of the run-flats say that patching tires voids their warantee, so almost nobody wants to go that route. Driving on tires that are no longer covered for manufacturer defects.

BMW price is negotiable and not set by BMW NA. The BMW plan is worth the premium since you can bring the car to any dealer and get warranty service. I have seen people get it for 650+. More than 1000k is a rip off but may still be worth it if you are running 20's with expensive rims.

Im not sure if its nationwide but in my district, wheel and tire is $595 at dealer cost(3 year protection on most BMW's). This is one of the ways the finance manager gets paid so if he cant make money on it, it isn't worth the trouble and paper work to sell it... thats why most places are so set on prices...

Safeguard is still the company that offers the insurance, but now BMW manages the rates. 3 years ago i got tire and roadside hazard through a dealership and paid 500 for 3 yr 45,000mi lease. I just picked up a new 2011 e92 and the price i was quoted was 1400 (and that's just for BMW tires and wheels) it's 1500 for ANY tire and wheel protection (including cosmetic updates). The region of the county is the main determining factor on price w/ the North East (NY & NJ especially) being the highest price region. I had $3080 worth of claims during the 3 years of my first lease so even at 1500 it was worth it for me.

I paid $870 for sport package tires on a 328xi, however this happened in July of 09. Not sure how much has changed since.

I paid $550 almost 3 years ago and driving around in Brooklyn/NYC I have at well over $3,000 in claims for anything from bubbles to bent rim and was even able to get them to cover a few refurbishing. The company I have is IAS but i was told they no longer offer new policies in NYC...

They're quoting me $ 1125 for 60 months with 19" run flats.....i have to sign up tomorrow and still can't decide. Will probably go for it - 2 flats covers it and with Calgary winters, they cover my winter set as well.
