Please help, I got not responses to my last question! I find it impossible to believe that BMW have produced a voice control system in which it is possible to say "Radio On" and have the radio come on but in which it is not possible to say "Radio Off" or "Radio Mute" or something like that and have the radio go off! Surely!!!!!! How do you turn the Entertainment system off by voice?

Maybe they figure that if you can press the Voice Command button and speak a command, it might be just easier to press the big button on the sound system to turn it off

Surely not, the big button (as you describe it) is over on cd/dvd controller in the centre of the cabin and not on the steering wheel, requiring you to take you eyes of the road ahead!

Well I'm not a fan of placing buttons that require to be hit rapidly on a moving platform. I like such buttons to stay in the one place.

For this reason, I'm glad the Steptronic doesn't have buttons on the steering wheel. Had a car that did that, and for quiet times, it's good, but when things get frantic..... If I'm maneuvering the car, and swapping hands on the wheel, those moving buttons can be hard to find. And I don't have to really look to hit the power button on the cd/dvd controller.

That said, here is a workaround for you - say "auxiliary on" (or is it "aux on") and make sure your iPod (or whatever) is not running at the time!

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but did you know you can say "options" on whatever screen you are on, and it will tell you all the voice commands for that screen? Just discovered this yesterday - pretty cool!

If you prefer to use a button on the steering wheel, you can program one of the buttons to perform muting. Page 47 of the September Owner's Manual

It is very cool, but the list is not complete. It just tells you the ones associated with the current screen, but you can still do things like "Top 8" even when you are in Navigation or Entertainment screens

I'm joining a little late, but is this supposed to work with the original software, i.e. pre-Sept. update? or just with the newer software?

As CMD said Kimo, it shouldn't matter.
If it doesn't work in your car now, a software update should allow it, as another member described.

Well, it doesn't work in our July 05 production car, i.e. no voice entry of addresses. And after all of the horror stories I'm hearing about software updates gone bad, I think we'll just leave well enough alone.

I just got my software updatedt CIP 20.0. The voice input for navigation only works to country level in my car. When I try the city or street the system asks me to use the controller to continue

Strange. I got the mp3 retrofit & the associated CIP20 update yesterday in the UK. I can now enter all parts of the destination, letter-by-letter & choose which parts of the address I want to enter as well.
