In a related note I've been waiting for about a month for a DEF tank. My SA told me that the failure rate in the old tanks was high enough that they did a redesign. The dealer is waiting on the tank to come in from Germany. If that is the case maybe you could get one of the "new ones"? Not sure if I am getting the run around but i will keep you updated. tank should be in by mid July.
Sounds like BS to me. I am skeptical that BMW would spend the dough for a tank redesign but maybe they forced the supplier to do it. Just had my tank replaced. Hopefully it was the new design.
There is no part number change so i dont know where is the rumor originating regarding a new part.

When I had CBU the SES code was for Injector #2 adaptation values. There are waay too many just #2 injector issues to actually be the injectors. If there really were injector problems, why are the issues not equally distributed between all cylinders. It's almost always #2. I still think it's something in the DDE programming. They never did replace any injectors on my car and it runs perfectly with the DDE update.

And with the last DDE update as I have said elsewhere the DEF consumption is way down. I've just crossed 19K miles since it was last filled and still no sign of the xxx miles to no start!

I just got mine back from BMW of The Woodlands here in Houston. They had it for a day and a half and say they replaced the urea tank due to level sensor fail. I wonder if they had it sitting on the shelf because of the number of d's here.

Being a previous resident of NC for 26 years, I know that most counties do emission testing but not sure if they do it on diesels. Texas does not which is great for the EGR and SCR delete. I am out of warranty in 1200 miles and will do it so I don't get nickel and domed to death as FLUndertaker stated. Code given this time on the service report was 46F9.

all in all since i purchased the car. the dealer has had to put about $2100. Not including the DPF tank that needs to be replaced. So that money isn;t in the tally.

But just so you know, the replacement injector would have cost over a thousand. I'm sure glad you found that dealer and that they were able to take care of you.

Goodwill goes a long way in my book and they just did "right" by you.

Enjoy the care, i know i do.

BTW, mine is a CPO and i purchased with a smidge over 41K miles on it and carbon blasting had already been done a month prior to my purchase.
The dealer MADE money on your car! all those repairs were paid by BMW NA. I had a similar story, CPO, 44k, walnut blasting "just" done. Total engine failure on the way hope from the dealership, probably $15,000 in repairs followed several repairs in short order, AC belt, DEF metering module, DEF Active tank, AC wiring repair caused by sloppy installation work when the engine was replaced. All on BMW's dime as the car still has new car warranty left.

Couple of questions

1. Yozh mentioned nozzle cleaning in post#8 of this thread. Are you referring to the nozzle in the exhaust pipe and not something in the DEF tank assembly?
2. kg4kdn mentioned code 46F9. Did that qualify for an under emissions warranty repair?

My car is a 2010 335d with 97K and no extended warranty. I've had the SES light for about 35K miles now. No driveability issues other than rough cold start idle in winter and I suspect the glow plug codes are causing that. I wonder if the glow plug controller might be the problem.

The codes in this list show thru Carly. I've cleared them but they come back immediately.

These codes show thru Carly...
Engine / Motor:
- Fault: Reducing agent, active temperature sensor signal interruption oKurzschluss to positive
- Code: 0046F9

- Fault: Glow plug
- Code: 0049FF

- Fault: Throttle actuator
- Code: 004687

- Fault: Glow plug
- Code: 00494A

Do the glow plug codes refer to specific glow plug numbers?

One other thing... the DEF code 46F9 says specifically 'short circuit (oKurzschluss) to positive'. I was thinking about pulling the DEF tank to see if there is a urea buildup causing the short. Thoughts on this? Thanks!

Actually, the dealer lost money - BMWUSA doesn't reimburse fully for warranty repairs - the rate is lower than dealer cost. That's one reason that the dealers try to up-sell for things not covered by warranty/maintenance (like tires, alignments, fuel-injector cleaning, etc.)

Just had all six glow plugs replaced under warranty two days ago as well as the urea tank six months ago...let's not forget the new transmission a month ago

For the nozzle, yes the urea nozzle that is on the downpipe. For your code 0046F9, if it shows as signal interrupt, it is unplugged or shorted. BMW has specific codes for shorts and circuit interrupts as opposed to plausibility values codes.
