I just don't get that thrill like I used to going out to dinner, or traveling or even taking a nice top down cruise along the Gulf.

The pandemic really changed me. It made me have a resting bitch face all the time and I hate it. I just dont know how to snap out of it.

Sorry, dont mean to get all emotional and mushy on you all

Is this something you’ve been struggling with since you moved? Or was it a struggle before? Have you seen a dr to rule out clinical depression?

A nice little 2 bedroom house with a fully outfitted 4 bay garage in the Eifel region of Germany within about 30-40 minutes of the Nurburgring. Overlooking Cochem would be a great spot. In the garage would be a Porsche GT3 RS with the full Manthey Racing pkg and an E92 M3 for fun on the 'Ring along with a '24 M3 Touring for a DD and a Porsche 911 Turbo S for those longer trips. Oh and an unlimited tire, brake and fluids budget.

I wasn't too greedy in my original post, but upon further reflection here's something that is truly unattainable that I lust for -- an M3 Touring with the same specs as my sedan: manual transmission, RWD, etc. And, while they're making this unicorn, paint it San Marino Blue. That would be BMW perfection!

I periodically whisper this softly in my wife's ear:

"Bass boat. Bass boat"

Although, I would much prefer something ocean-worthy, about 32'

For vehicles, it would be a frame-off build of '70 Cougar, 351 Cleveland, disk and about 245 on all 4 corners. Deep, dark grey with leather interior. And the sequential trigger taillights MUST work!!!!

I used to feel that tug at my heart for things, houses, cars, boats. But I got to a point this past yr where I just realized - those things don’t matter. Are they cool and fun to have, sure, but I’m far from “lusting” after new shiny stuff. In fact living outside of that entire paradigm really is something I lusted for.

Having said that. A house on a lake with a sea plane that took me to my island boat house, that was equipped with a warehouse full of dirt bikes and dune buggies would be fun. Also - all access concierge service with a private jet service could be nice. But again, my happiness wouldn’t be any different than it is now because “things” are really just a destraction from all that really matters.

New skyline wouldn’t hurt anyone though

Apparently, feeling low is not logical. It can happen to people who have money, fame, great friends, great family, and a garage full of amazing cars; and still.

Hopefully you will snap out of it and get back to your old self. Now go stand in front of the mirror and practice a smile for all the great things you do have.

All the best!

I experience that too. I spent my working life traveling and taking vacations all over the globe and I love it. Now, my wife and I still love to travel but we don't like the getting to the destination part.

As we get older, not liking the same things as we did in our younger years is probably normal. I've done some age-related pivots in my life that have helped me a lot. Dropping the things you don't enjoy and focusing on things that make you happy is a good thing.

It is a really good thing that you are acknowledging this and putting yourself out there. I hope things perk up for you.
Thank you for the concern, I agree with the aging aspect but I also feel like at 50 I shouldnt feel like that.

THIS^ 100% hits the nail on the head. I used to love planning trips and getting away. 50% of it is trouble of getting somewhere, BOEING's, nut jobs on planes and 50% is home is so comfortable and the weather is great why would I want to leave?

Totally new, I think a good percentage of it is being so content and complacent at home and the lack of winter/fall/greyness.
I'm sure there could be a bout of depression but I have a hard time admitting it or seeing someone to find out

FL has some amazing bike trails. Get bike and ride. It worked wonders for me. I dropped 90lbs and I feel a lot better now at 65 than I did 10 years ago before I started riding.

Oh, the many direction I can take this...

A tight, seductive, alluring blanket I can throw myself into, preferably one created in Southeast Asia. Bonus points if.... nevermind I'll get myself banned.

Great advice. For me it was hiking. My balance is bad so riding a bike is out. I started hiking about 15 years ago since we have lots of hills where I live. I'm now 74 and I've not been in this good of shape in 30 years.

2003 LeMans Blue M5. Really like the look of the car, haven't had the pleasure of driving one yet, but I've heard the stick shift is quite good and it just works together really well.

Same. It's like going to the gym for me. I feel good when I do it, but I have 0 desire to do it. I enjoy traveling, but I have 0 desire to deal with getting there. After my last and only trip to Spain I was like I will never fly that far unless it's business class and I'll be staying for AT LEAST 2 weeks+.

I used to be a Nationally ranked BMX racer but bad knees and being 21 years old took precedent over pedaling around a track.

I have a great MTB but I just need to ride it. I got so good at couch riding I hope the bike comes back to me quickly

Just remember some days the mind follows how the body feels other days the body follows how the mind feels. Getting oxygen into the blood and increasing the volume of oxygen your body is able to get into your body plays massive roles in how able your body is. Doing something every day is 100% better than nothing. Try putting a dumbell in a backpack and go for a 20 min walk after breakfast and after dinner. Desire has to be cultivated and practiced - gratitude has to be cultivated and practiced. See how many reasons “why” you can come up with and jot them down. So if you’ve proven your body isn’t going to make the first mood - than it’s your mind you’re going to have to remind who is in control.

I always lust for wellness.

I am lucky and at my ripe old age, I have everything I could really ask for. Family, friends, retired, travel, no debt, great health, etc. I thank my lucky stars every day and I am not really wanting for anything more in my life....until:

Today, I saw a 2000 or so E39 M5 in front of me while I was driving. It looks like it had just been detailed and the owner has kept it looking like brand new. I got a brand new 1997 540i followed by a 2003 540i with m-tech package so I've driven the amazing E39 for over 10 years between the two cars. I always toyed with the idea of getting an M5 of that era but my practical side kicked in and stopped me. I can afford it. I've got an extra spot in the garage, but I just couldn't justify it in my mind until I saw this beautiful example of one of BMW's finest achievements today on the road. I instantly wanted to pull the guy over and write a check for whatever amount would get him to say yes! Lust is the only word that comes close to my emotion at that moment, hence the title.

So, do any of you have that thing, practical or not, that makes you feel the way I described? Maybe a car, but it could be anything really. Keep it clean so this thread has any chance of making it to page 2!
You absolutely should do it!!!!! There are quite a few of them out there!! When I was young all the guys constantly had the hots for a girl. I ALWAYS had the hots for a car!!

I had the hots for girls and cars. My first decent car was a 1968 AMC Javelin. I was dating a really cute girl at that time and she really like the car. I was in heaven! The car is long gone and I really miss it. But the cute girl married me. We've been married 51 years and counting.

ps I'm certain I've posted this before but with my memory fading I never know for sure.
